Gillett behind Klinsmann push at Liverpool

Gillett behind Klinsmann push at Liverpool
    tribalfootball.com - February 25, 2008

George Gillett - not Tom Hicks - was the driving force to replace Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez earlier this season, it has been revealed.

The Sunday Mirror says co-owner Hicks has taken the brunt of criticism from outraged Liverpool fans over the plot to replace Benitez with Jurgen Klinsmann, it was Gillett who first made contact with the German.

The move backfired and Hicks broke his silence to admit that Klinsmann had been approached.

A club insider said: "Hicks has been condemned for undermining Benitez, but Gillett contacted Klinsmann. Benitez knows this - and Gillett knows that Benitez knows.

"Hicks was asked about Klinsmann and he answered honestly by admitting Klinsmann had been approached, but the fans have been blaming the wrong owner."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I agree I don't care who made the first call they are both as bad as each other and have been a disaster.

first rafa comes out and says hicks supports him and the relationship is very good,
next a 'club insider' says that it was gillett not hicks who wanted rid of rafa

Depends where the info came from ... Rafa's one came from the horse's mouth. The other one is a close shave I'd say.

Cannot understand Gillett's role in all this.

If reports over the past several weeks were to be believed Gillett was as desperate to get rid of Hicks as we are, Hicks was the evil ******* who was trying to shaft Rafa and his silence was a result of his opposition to the way he was behaving. Hicks was also the only one that wanted HKS on board and forced everyone else to go along with it even though EVERYONE else wanted AFL

To hear Rafa publicly talking up Hicks and publicly saying he hasn;t had any support from Gillett is puzzling to say the least
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

Maybe Hicks has been sending Rafa e-mails of support, maybe it's a case of you scratch my back rafa and I'll scratch yours either way I don't care. Rafa shouldn't trust Hicks or Gillett they are lower than a snakes belly and need to go.

I love it, in the unlikely event of DIC taking over we will be saying the same thing in 12 months about them.

Does anybody honestly believe they are comimg to our club to do anything other than make a profit. Not one more penny than is neccessary will be invested by the Arabs, they want to make MONEY from us, forget "love of the club" bollox and "we are supporters" It will be out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Of course you are right Kev but I get the impression that DIC are people that realise to make mony you need a successful team and that can only be good for the fans.

So just as it seems that Gillet will be leaving and Hicks possibly staying it's "Suddenly" revealed that it was Gillets fault all along :whatever:

Either way the meet was at Tom Hick's place, and even if I'm proved otherwise on that the fact remains that BOTH held talks with Klinsmann, and both were fully aware of what was going on.

                            Both are equally to blame.
                            Forwards.......

Sure, woulden't expect it to be otherwise... I do however care when our owners lie, make false promises, go behind the managers back, comes public with matters to be kept within club walls, putting debt on the club - and the list could continue!

I don't expect DIC if they come in not to go for a profit - they are businessmen, I just expect them to be way more professional than the to clowns we have at the moment, and for them to actually keep their promises!

And btw - usually you have to spend money to earn money, so see no reason they woulden't want to invest in the club (and perhaps actually manage to build the fabled stadium)
