Man Utd raid Liverpool for "top England prospect"

Manchester United have trumped Liverpool for teenage prospect Scott Wootton.

The People says the England youth international from the Wirral had been with the Anfield club since he was 12, but he and his family were upset when he was offered only a short-term deal to stay.

Wootton turned down the contract and was immediately picked up by United who offered him the chance to be a professional - after just one run-out in the under-18 side last week.

It is a major slap for Rafa Benitez's club and insiders reveal Wootton left because he thought there were too many foreigners at the club's academy and his way would be blocked.

And the size of his potential was quickly spotted by eager United.

not sure if anyone knows about the kid, or what has happened? Seems pissde off by the amount of foreign talent we're bring ing in. Does anyone know if this kid has the talent to make it, oz it'd be a ****ty day to lose him to the mancs if he did

Ah well, it's football and it happens. We'd also do it to them in a jot and the chances are we'll never hear of him again.

If the bit in bold is true then it's probably best all round that he goes down the road.

Happens all the time and we will benefit in some ways and lose in others

Impossible to know who at 14 / 15 are going to make it and if he was the star he is being made out to be he shouldn't be concerned about the amount of foreigners coming in

Finding out it was about some 12 year old killed the interest. Not even Newsnow material:

Offered short term deal means they didn't rate him very highly. Not worth bothering about

Lol yup I think "Felt there were too many better players annd his way would be blocked" would be more honest. Nice that he thinks there is less competition at OT for places in there youth sides.

Not that it matters but it says he was at the club since he was 12. Not that he is 12.

They signed him after he played a game for the under 18s

If he was 12 and impressed with the under 18s well...........
