I've been raving about Babel on here this past few months or so, as I really feel we have a potential world star on our hands.
Yes I agree, I also hate that word 'potential', but for me, Babel has it all - pace, the ability to beat a man, a rock hard shot, can score goals, can set up goals and bring others into a scoring opportunity, yes he can do it all. Like most attacking players he is a confidence player and a game like today can bring out the very best in him (which is very good news for us given the games we have ahead) - although will Rafa start him regularly in these games is another matter?!). He's had a good run of games recently so here's hoping that continues.
He's scored his fair share so far for us this season and will continue to do so until the end of the season and I expect him to be well int double figures by May.
As I've said earlier, he can be as good as he wants to be - even up there with the very best. He's still very young and hasn't had a rest since the summer before last, having played in that Under-20s tournament over the summer before joining us.
After a full season with us I expect him to push on and be a huge threat for us next season, and maybe in a strikers role too.

I would argue the point that someone like, say Micheal Owen doesnt have a great deal of game intelligence. Im not having a go at the little weasle(!!) but his natural pace and eye for goel more than makes up for his limited vision and quite poor ball control, watch him and you'll see. it didnt really hold him back here, but now he's playing with poorer players he's been found out, and babels a much more skillful players, so ive got no doubts about him.Originally posted by AFII View PostNot that much. It may get a little bit better but you can't get from average to very good game intelligence for example.

thought he looked superb today, constantly running at the defence, getting shots in, playing in people and took his chance well and could jhave had a at least 2/3 more. Lets hope he takes this form on and keeps on getting better for us.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostBabel was outstanding today and I hope he takes confidence from his performance.
It is a cert that if he played for United, Arsenal or Chelsea then we'd be looking on enviously. The boy is a potential match-winner.
As an aside, I'd say Penannt and Kewell will almost certainly be shipped out in the summer.

I think he is benefitting from Rafa's "less rotation policy", he's played the last 3-4 on the trot and has improved as a result (IMO).Originally posted by Parm View Postthought he looked superb today, constantly running at the defence, getting shots in, playing in people and took his chance well and could jhave had a at least 2/3 more. looked superb. Their defense really concentrated on shutting down Torres...but left Babel wide open time and time again. If only he had of taken that last chance and doubled his tally. Although in fairness the ball was played slightly behind him. Great game from the lad. 8 goals already, and quite a few games left. He should get 10, which would be a great debut season for the lad
Jussi must have had stinging palms after those two belters he managed to keep out

We need another world class right sided player. That would bring much balance to our team and maybe another left winger in to compete with Babel. Stevie in the middle just off Torres was something I wanted to see on a more regular basis for a long time. I think this gives him the freedom needed to have a massive influence on games. Another world class goalscorer wouldn't go amiss too.Originally posted by Harveybirdman View Postlooked superb. Will Hicks splash out another £ 60m to bring us such players ?

A worldclass right sided player and the opposition wouldnt know who to concentrate on. Torres, Babel, Stevie or him.

I think Babel could do a job on the right. We should not restrict ourselves to getting a right sided attacking player - we should IMO consider any top player who could add something on either wing."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Rafa likes him to come on his right foot from the left though as he has a fantastic shot on him. This skill would be somewhat restricted on the right IMO.Originally posted by dww View PostI think Babel could do a job on the right.
