    2 players for every position - How to see what we need

    Going by the general rule that to compete at that highest level and compete for the league - You need to decent players for every position - Lets see what we should have for the start of next season and see where we really need to recruit.

    Keeper - Reina, Bulgarian (forget his name , but he is on loan waiting a permit)

    CB - Carragher, Agger, Skirtel, Hobbs/Hyppia

    Rb - Finnan, Arbeloa

    Lb - Riise, Insua

    CM -Levia , Alonso, Mascher, Gerrard

    LWM- Babel, Benayoun

    Rm - Pennant, Anderson

    St - Torres, Crouch , Kuyt, ???

    So in my opinion we may be only 2/3/ players away from a complete squad .
    We NEED a WORLD class striker - My ideas would be Aguero or Baptista - With the formation we play I am looking at a second slightly deeper forward as Torres, Crouch can play at the head of 4231 and Kuyt is adequate behind them. I fCrouch was also to go then I would add Huntellar to the list or possibly Adriano.

    Lwm - Yossi is not a traditional winger so this is an area that needs strengthening- I feel that we need to spend money as players bought cheaply such as leto and gonzales just dont cut it .

    Rm- I am happy with the prospect of pennant and anderson but I know that many dont rate pennant - MY replacement would be Nasri or Mancini

    I think to get to the next level we need 3 maybe 4 top class players.

    I think we need a good attacking right back.

    1 maybe 2 genuine world class wingers.

    1 Top, top striker.

    It might take a couple of years to get all all of the above in but if we do.......

            This is what I wrote before.

            The "new" system has been talked about recently, I wonder how much does Rafa need to change in terms of playing personel to get the most out of this system. I have recently found myself defending Kuyt, I think he suits the system well as long as he is playing alongside Torres and/or Babel, so there will be some pace in the attack.

            Today the strongest lineup would be I think:

            Reina

            Finnan
            Carra
            Agger
            Aurelio

            Mascher
            Alonso

            Babel
            Gerrard
            Kuyt

            Torres

            I think we have both central defence and central midfield covered but I reckon our first priority this summer should be a full back (right one with pace), a winger who can offer a decent goal threat and a good striker.

            Don't think we need to add much more to the squad this summer if it means we could spend big in those positions.

              I think Guthrie should be given a chance. Alonso is sellable for the right price, and Guthrie is doing well at Bolton. He can also play RW, but isn`t a pacey/crosses kind of winger if that is what we need.
              I`m not sure we need a world class striker as Babel can play there, and Nemeth might be ready next season. Of course a new player in the same class as Torres would be great, but also cost a lot. On the other hand if Babel plays as a striker we need a new LW.

                A right full back would hopefully be someone of the quality of Alves or Richards.
                A winger that scores and can play both wings would ideally be a Robben or Messi

                I was going to include Guthrie as one of the cms but have a feeling that he will be sold in the summer .

                Once this 22 is complete then you dont have to spend a lot of money to maintain the squad as you would hope that there would be a youth team player to replace an ageing or inadequate squad member

                          We need another quality striker/forward and better wide players.Whether we will be able to splash the cash on the likes of Villa/Aguero/ etc who knows. I don't think it is realistic to have 22 TOP class players , so either older players such as Sami can be used as back up, or youngsters form the ressies.

                          If either of Hammil or Anderson can be introduced as back up winger next season it will save us money. They have both played enough games on loan for the Rafa to decide whether he should keep or sell them.

                          At some point next season I really hope we start seeing some of the promising young players coming in to at least fill the number 2 slot in some positions.

                          Guthrie, Hobbs, Nemeth, Insua ,Hammil and Anderson, how many are ready/good enough ?

                            We need one John Barnes quality player and we're sorted. No other vacancies. Babel and Nemeth should be backup to Torres and Kuyt. Less turnover the better at this stage.
