I just think that Aimar as back up to Stevie in the attacking midfield position is a pretty good gamble. Agbonlahor is adapted to the leagues in a position where there is no one else in the league better than him whom we could reasonable get - we need the players who come in to hit the ground running IMO.Originally posted by PC Plod View PostWould rather see us combine the Aimar & Agbonlahor money to get 1 top top class player & keep Crouchie & Kuyt as back up. I know Aimar was top top in his day but those 2 would cost £25m between them & I reckon we could spend that better on 1 player.
I would spend the big money on fullbacks if we could get the two above. I honestly think that have the right qualities but in a way they are choices made because I see no players out there who are considerably better and likely to adapt quickly to the league as well as being available. I accept that there may well be and if someone was to point them out I would happily alter that. Dare I say Bellamy would have been interesting on the right of this formation and could have covered for Torres up top. If we could get someone similar but not such a head case along with Babel and Torres it would be more of a 3 and not a 1 forward formation.
And I didn't even mention Cisse or Diouf. You learn nothing reading signatures.

I think that is the role I see Agbonlahor doing. The advantage being that unlike Babel it would be the role he is used to playing and so he might be expected to slip into the team without too much acclimatisation time.Originally posted by dero View PostDare I say Bellamy would have been interesting on the right of this formation and could have covered for Torres up top. In terms of whether I think Villa would sell - I'm not sure, I think it would depend on the player O'Neill has always been keen on having players who want to play for him. They obviously don't need the cash though - so he may not be as reasonably priced as we might like."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I'd take Amauri over Gomez because Gomez is a promising young player that has excelled in a weaker league because of this I can see him taking his time to get used to the English game and etc etc It could be ages until we could unlock the full potential out of a player like Gomez.Originally posted by AFII View PostMario Gomez would be a better signing if you want a good striker in the air.
We all say we want a title now, so I'm saying we should get a player with proven potential with a good head at a good age. We know what we're getting, a player in their prime and we don't need to wait "x" amount of years to see them fill out.
I know that Amauri may sound a little weird but I like to keep an eye on Palermo and I've been very impressed with him.
In general though I want a player that's 25-28 or so. Most of the players we're signing are younger ones. Which is good but I want established players to come too. I know you may pay more but there's more chance of success. I like a combination.
