We really need to pull the boat out for Daniel Alves, him and a decent winger....who I don't know.

              its a great system imo

gerrard gets to pley in the middle going forward which is a massive bonus for us, mascher and xavi control the midfield attacks and babel/need a right winger but kyut will do for now, can supply torres

like djs says, if it aint broke....

It is a good system which demands a lot from the front man in terms of work rate and goal threat. While Torres is fit it is the best way IMO to get the maximum from him and also allows other players to shine. There is a worry that we could struggle to replicate the formation if/when Torres is not in the team but in that instance we do have the option of changing formation anyway.

I think in general it fits our players well in terms of our first XI but I think we still lack players who are ideal in terms of the front four outside the players we started the game with today. Arguably Benayoun does fit but he doesn't have the consistent aggression or pace to win back the ball and counter attack in the way that gets the most from the formation we play. I think if we could get two players who are a goal threat and comfortable in an number of the front 4 positions in the summer it would be ideal. Both Arsenal and United have a number of players who are comfortable in a number of positions in this way and the signings of Voronin, Babel and even Benayoun (whatever you believe about their quality) indicates that Rafa has been looking to for this sort of player too.

7 wins in 7 games suggests the formation isn`t a bad thing.

Of the opponents in those 7 games other than Inter we should beat all of those teams anyway. The test of the formation more generally will come in the more demanding fixtures we have between now and the end of the season.

Yeah mate, but we should also beat Brum, Wigan, Spurs etc too.

'Shoulds' are always there, but you have to actually do it. I agree about the tougher games, but it's certainly been excellent for a while.

Arsenil should beat "Boro" twice every season but they didn`t.It`s a funny old game.

I wasnt being critical, i was actually complimenting the impact of the formation. Naturally, it went wooshing over your head

Thats true but when you happen to have a run of relatively easy games it is hard to tell whether the improved results are simply due to improved individual form or something more organisational.

I'm looking forward to the harder games now - which is a distinct change from a month or so ago.

Fair point, it'll be interesting to see. What's certain though is that the winning run with the 4231 will certainly have boosted confidence for the harder games.
