I think Rafa spoke carefully and I don't think it would sound hollow, but I admire your hardened pessimism.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

We are due a win against the scum. If we control the midfield which we failed to do at Anfield then we are in with a shout!!
      Dare we believe

If City could do it then so can we.

I wonder, say if we do close the gap and finish at least say within single figures of whoever wins the tiel (wont go into the permutations of us winning it as it is a long shot) but will peoples preception of us change? a month people said we wer emiles behind theother 3 and that we needed massive investment, yet a mere month later, we are only 8 behind the leaders, and we are playing well with the same set of players. Do we need that much more investment to get us to the top now?

How come?? All he has stated is we have been playing well but have some very hard matches coming up. Take each one at a time and if we manage to win them we should be sitting a lot closer to the top.

We can leave the playing defensively to Man U. Ferguson always shows huge respect to Liverpool by playing five across the middle and only one up front, with Rooney withdrawn deep on the left. We usually have more chances on target than them and have failed narrowly in a number of games where they've caught us on the break or from a set-piece.

But their luck can't last forever, their performances have been very scrappy of late and I'm confident we'll win by a couple of goals

With Gerrard and Torres on form we should be alot more effective in front of goal compared to other games. Mind you Ronaldo is bound to play a cracker in one big game, lets hope it isnt Sunday.
In my mind Torres and Ronaldo have been the 2 best players in the league this year, could be a classic match but will prob turn out to be a real borefest like these big matches normally are.

we can beat these ****s at old toilet. we're playing a settled team thats high on confidence with nothing to lose. As for making the title race interesting, maybe for arsenal and chelsea. Rafa blew it with the **** antics he got upto earlier this season. No getting away from that regardless of what side of the fence you sit on. And in case some forget two instances i remember immediately.

Lets rest torres for that important carling cup game.
Lets give up @ Reading with half an hour to play

Nevermind the countless times he played a team that just might win instead of a team that will win. I'm frustrated because we really should have been competing this year looking at the points tally of the others, there's been no one runaway leader.

I am definitely not in the Rafa can do no wrong camp, but bringing that up is just plain wrong. He was basically told that he will be sacked if he didn’t win the CL game. So he thought **** it, I can’t blame him for that, and I don’t think anyone can.

i think you will find the takeover debacle and rafa's impending threat of the sack with klinsman supposedly waiting in the wings took there toll too

not disputing that whatsoever as for giving up the reading game because he needed to win in europe - fine, one thing though rafa put us in that do or die position in the first place. i remember dire performances by the likes of leto, sissoko, pennant in some of them earlier games.

Rafa tried to rotate with a squad that wasn't strong enough, he's realised too late to make things interesting in the league this season.

don't think you'll ever stop rafa over rotating, we just need a stronger squad for next season then perhaps we won't be out of the title race in January

We need more game winners so that when we rest one player we still look likely to win. Another Torres or top class winger would make all the difference.
                              Forwards.......
