Nobody is even remotely suggesting that.

Whenever this issue comes up though, there's always people who argue against it as though it is what's being suggested.

Its just not the same. When your standing up you feel free and can jump around, join in the singing with your scarf above your head and do so loudly. Sitting down it just doesnt happen

Maybe I was being slightly facetious

Anyone who thinks standing will be perfectly safe when brought back does not understand football fans nowadays.

When people go to away games etc they and their mates wont all have tickets next to each other but they dont care, they go and stand with thier mates dont they? People group together. Now who is going to want to stand at the back of the Kop when they can get in with someone down the front? People will push in and thats were the problems start. You try telling someone they cant stand with their mates cos there isnt enough room, what do they do? Squeeze in more to show there is room. Then all it needs is something to happen to one person and the whole lot get effected.

If people could be trusted to just stand in their alloted space, which is kinda what happend at the back of the Kop now, there isnt really a safety problem, but people arent like that. They all think they know whats best and please themselves. Ive done it myself on away days.

Unless football fans actually respect the rules, then it will never be safe and sadly fans dont.

Going by the other (vastly inferior) half's post that may be a good thing.

Thanks Glove for that post. As a OOC'er I find those posts informative.

Thing is, its all well and good saying we can do this and do that to make it safe but none of it allows for the human element. People will no doubt come on and say 'it works in germany etc' but that is basically because the people there do as they are told. Its as simple as that.

For example, whenever a European side comes to Anfield, at some point I always end up working in the away end with them. You tell them to do something and they do it. You go in the away end for a prem league/FA Cup/League cup game, you tell the away fans to do something you get abuse.

With the correct organisation, planning and stewarding, tell me how this isn't safe ?

The humans that populate it make it unsafe, not rules and regulations and planning.

Even in Athens despite everything that had gone on in the past at our club, people didn't give a ****. They still pushed in, they still went to stand wherever the **** they wanted regardless of whether they were in someone elses spec cos people only care about themselves at the end of the day. That's why it isn't safe.

There were no stewards and ****ing turnstiles in Athens! Completely different situation, surely ?!
