    Insua & Leto

Argentina's Olympic team boss Sergio Batista has named Javier Mascherano in a list of 53 players from which he will select the 18 who will go to Beijing in August.

In news that could well alarm Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, three players over the age of 23 are allowed in the final squad, but six feature in the list.

Along with Mascherano, Bayern Munich's Martin Demichelis and Juan Roman Riquelme of Boca Juniors are Batista's first choices to help defend the gold medal won in Athens four years ago.

Barcelona's Gabriel Milito, as well as Internazionale pair Esteban Cambiasso and Julio Cruz have also been included in the initial squad.

Damian Leto (Liverpool), Franco Di Santo (Chelsea) and Emiliano Insua, owned by Boca Juniors but on an 18-month loan at Anfield, are also looking to make the cut.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has also been included in Batista's list.

Didn't we sign Insua permanently in the summer as part of the deal that sent Paletta to Boca?? ..... & think I've got to the bottom of the Leto passport problem - we signed Sebastian's non footballing brother (which explains some of his performances)

Yes, we signed Insua permanently. Maestro could be more specific on this though.

Could be a problem this, you'd imagine Lucas would be going as well.

Thought as much mate - bugs me when national media cannot get simple things right ....... you'd have thought names and clubs should be a given !!!!

the Olymipic gold medal is hotly contested, and is a big thing for South American teams (esp Brazil and Argentina) expect them to send very strong squads there. Has Tevez been selected or has Whiskey nose said he'll be injured for August?

No Tevez wasn't selected - assume they are confident with the amount of super young strikers they have already but don't have anyone good enough to fill Mascherano's role

fair enough, suppose with Auguero, Messi and Cruz they have the cover needed.

Argentina should be a bit good at the next WC, IMO.
