    Reserves Tonight

Moroccan international Nabil El Zhar returns to action for Liverpool Reserves in the mini derby against Everton at the Stobart Stadium in Widnes tonight - a match you can watch live on LFC TV from 6.30pm GMT.
The striker, who scored on his international debut for Morocco against Belgium last week, returns to Gary Ablett's starting line-up for the first time in 2008 after his long lay-off due to a heel injury.

Leading goalscorer Krisztian Nemeth leads the Reds attack while Jordy Brouwer is preferred to Craig Lindfield as his strike partner. Spanish starlet Daniel Pacheco is away on international duty.

The game is being played at the Stobart Stadium in Widnes, home of Widnes Vikings Rugby club. LFC TV presenter Matt Critchley will be joined in the studio by John Durnin to bring you the build up to the game, while David Fairclough will provide match analysis in the commentary box. Kick-off is at 7pm.

    The Liverpool team is:

    David Martin
    Stephen Darby
    Emiliano Insua
    Mikel San Jose
    Ronald Huth
    Damien Plessis
    Nabil El Zhar
    Jay Spearing
    Jordy Brouwer
    Krisztian Nemeth
    Ryan Flynn

    Subs:-

    Gerardo Bruna
    Peter Gulacsi
    Martin Kelly
    Andras Simon
    Daniel Ayala

Glad to see them back again - I know I go on like a broken record but cannot understand why Brouwer is still playing as he doesn't even look good enough for the reserves & is definitely not going to make it. Fair enough Pacheco is missing but I'd much rather have a look at this lad Simon up top with his Hungarian mate

      best of luck young reds

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

When ever i have watched brouwer (I have watched a few of the res matches on LFCtv, but not all of them), he look disinterested, slow and cumbersome. I have not been at all impressed by him (the opposite to nemeth, who has been very, very impressive and insua who stand head and sholders above everyone else).
Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet.

Pennant lines up for Liverpool Reserves at Widnes

JERMAINE Pennant has been named in the Liverpool reserve team to face Everton at Widnes' Stobart Stadium tonight, Tuesday, at 7pm.

The winger, who was a late substitute in the first-team 'derby' with Everton on Sunday, has been named in a youthful second string.

Liverpool team: David Martin, Stephen Darby, Emiliano Insua, Mikel San Jose Dominguez, Ronald Huth, Damien Plessis, Jermaine Pennant, Jay Spearing, Jordy Brouwer, Krisztian Nemeth, Nabil El Zhar. Subs: Gerardo Bruna, Peter Gulacsi, Martin Kelly, Andras Simon, Ryan Flynn.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

WTF? Ayala dropped completely, Flynn relegated to the bench and Pennant brought into the starting line up?

Probably means that Rafa will use Pennant against Arsenal in the PL and drop him from the CL squad to play them.

Or Ayala is injured and Rafa wants Pennant to gain fitness. He and Crouch haven't been getting much game time but Pennant is less well established and might take (or have asked for the game) more readily.

Exactly - even though I don't rate him and have no illusions that he will make it at Liverpool - would rather have Lindfield play ahead of Brouwer as at least he brings a bit of form with him

Have just seen that Pennant is playing too - feel a little sorry for Flynn actually as I have been quite impressed with him over teh past few games. Like most people who are sent out on loan, you don't fancy their chances of coming back and breaking through but he has looked a real prospect IMO - lots of energy, not afraid to get stuck in & decent on the ball

Great play between Insua and Spearing, and at the end of the move Brouwer does what he does best - blazes over the bar.

Insua fizzes a chance just wide of the far post.

Great cross from Pennant and Brouwer - yep, you guessed it - nods over the bar.

In contrast to Brouwer, Nemeth is excellent again. Should have had a penalty just now. He just comes alive in the box.
