I do think in Torres' absence Crouchy could do a good job there but it would depend a great deal on having runners around him.
Actually, thinking about it your interepretation is probably right

      been thinking along these lines

without quality wide players who can cross with the outside foot, crouch is wasted and lfc are too predictable but this setup might JUST give us something

Didn't Rafa try playing Torres just off Crouch in one game where it was more a 4-4-1-1, that seemed to work quite well I can't remember the game, I think it was just before we started going 4-2-3-1, probably the last game Torres and Crouch started together
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think it could work but is definitely more of a special situation formation. I would probably consider it more often than Rafa has though.

4-4-2 next season is the way forward. we should look to sign berbatov to partner torres.

Crouch will surely play the 2nd leg next week at some stage. When you bypass Arsenal's midfield with long balls like Chelsea did they look lost.

In the new system Crouch can only play Torres's position and he wont get in in any big game. I have a feeling he will play a big part in us lifting big ears in Moscow though.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

But why when we have a striker that scored over 20 goals in the league would we play him out of position to incorporate a fringe player like Crouch. If we signed another world class centre forward then 4-4-2 with both of them would seem more logical. As it stands I don't like the idea of it.
I think in his last season at Atletico Torres played on the left supporting Aguero who played lone striker upfront and If i am not wrong that was his least productive season. One of the simple things Rafa did was telling Torres to play on the shoulder of the last defender. By making that change he has had the most productive season in his career.

IMO it would be madness to shift Torres position now. What we need to do is provide him with more classy attacking support on the right.
