Looks like Rafa is finally taking note of me.

Following the reserves 0-0 draw with Newcastle:

Good performance from the youngsters ... we did everything but score. Nemeth was v.good again, and i'm a big fan of Plessis. MOM was definitely Insua ... he had a cracking game!! Although the Newcastle keeper was superb too!!

Anyone who watches the reserves would have seen a player head and shoulders above any of his opposite numbers. He has bossed the midfield in every game he has played. Obviously there is some doubt as to these kids making the step up, but if you have a player who shines then they must be given a chance, if not why buy them?

I don't think he did himself any harm with his debut game. I'd like to see him get a few more games this season, and a fair few next year.

Come on, it's easy to say that now but in every single reserves match report or discussions on who was our next great player he barely got a sniff. Always comments like big lad or strong in midfield but I don't remember him even being mentioned in the top 5 young players.

Believe he was named no. 1 in the LFC tv top 10 youngesters to watch in 2008 programme couple of months back

True but the LFC top ten is probably Ablett and/or Rafa!
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

I don't normally read the match reports I just watch the games. I've been harping on about the 3 kids from the reserves for ages. In my opinion we could go and waste money on a.n. other foreign guy, who has to come in, get used to the country, club and system. They then may turn out to be good or not so good. The 3 kids deserve their chance, esp. Insua as we need a left back, and he should be given a go as back up to Fabio.

My tuppence worth (which isn't even worth that!!!) is that he seems technically very good and composed on the ball. For a tall lad I don't think he is particularly amazing in the air and his shooting hasn't been anything to write home about.

However after a couple of wayward performances early on he has settled very well, is a good tackler and has a sweet left foot. Rather than look for the hollywood balls all the time, he is content with receiving the ball and moving it on quickly and accurately (think he had something like an 88% passing success rate on Saturday) - the highest compliment you could pay him is an outsider would have watched the game on Saturday and would never have picked him out to be the debutant - very comfortable and got more confident as the game went on, don't remember him being dispossessed even once

Too early to say he can replace Alonso & no way of knowing whether he will make it as a top player but early signs suggest he could at least come in and do a solid job when needed and hopefully will develop the more involvement he has with the first team - would love to see the likes of Insua & Nemeth (& Pacheco not long after) coem in and do the same and then we would be able to concentrate most of our budget on a couple of first teamers instead of more squad players

I've been raving about Plessis for months. Not because he does anything 'special' like Nemeth or Insua, but because he keeps things brilliantly simple. His positional sense is superb and as well as short crisp passing, he can spread a long cross-field passes as well.

Yeah to be fair Max, a lot of us have been watching the ressies this season and Plessis has improved with every game. The 'big three' have been Plessis, Insua and of course Nemeth. I think everyone who's seen the reserves regularly would agree.

Jay Spearing is the future of this football club.

I was the first to big Plessis up though.

Unfortunately I don't think he is.

Spearing might well have been gutted to see Plessis make the step up before him, but I reckon the sad truth is Spearing is just too small to ever make it with us. Cracking little player, though.

I don't think he'll make it at all

Have been saying to my mates for a while now that although Spearing gets all the MOTM awards and stands out with some cracking goals and tough tackling, it's Plessis who keeps possession and allows us to tick - very similar to say Gerrard & Mascherano playing in the middle together

I was at the game, sat about 10 rows behind Wenger (on a Gooner mate's season ticket).

I wasn't actually planning on going as last year's game at the Emirates really hacked me off. However, I'd read Maestro's post on Friday evening and I didn't want to pass up the chance to see Plessis' debut firsthand.

After a somewhat shaky start where he passed pretty much every ball back to defence or Pepe the lad really grew into the game. An early full blooded challenge had the Gooners baying for a card and throughout the game his positioning was excellent. He broke forward when covered, made the extra man in defence and made a couple of superb interventions. My personal favourite was the Walcott tackle. Young Theo was causing Alvaro & Jon a few problems down our left flank and Damien charged over and put a great tackle through man & ball. Cue the Gooners shouting for a card again.

Overall his passing was pretty much faultless, and I reckon he's only going to improve with experience. Good shout Rafa, and thanks to Maestro otherwise I probably wouldn't have gone to the match.
