Indeed, I think it's a great little set-up. Some teams probably play their fringe players and old pro's in the ressies but everything at LFC seems geared towards preparing youngsters for a step up. And success is a great bonus, it's the only league title we're going to get near for at least another 12 monthsOriginally posted by Angry Dan View PostI thought that that was what the reserves and youth teams were all about these days. I remember reading articles at the begining of the season saying that we were not in the results business anymore but about playing the right way and developing the players to play in the first team.
It is just an added bonus that the 2 seem to be connected at the minute.
It's a shame we can't buy Gretna and send all the kids there to play.

LFC Premier Reserve League Northern Champions
1st half was excellent a lot of neat one touch interplay all capped off with the brilliant Nemeth goal, 2nd half was very scrappy.
Excellent work by Ablett to bring all these youngsters of different nationalities together and blend them so successfully in to a winning team, lets hope Rafa promotes some of the better players sooner rather then later. We come not to play.

I really think we need to forge strong links with a lower league team to get some of these young players to the next level. The way Anderson has done at Swansea shows how if a player is ready he can go on and develop further playing week in week out.
The problem is finding a club that will continue to develop the players and get them playing in the right way.

Yep. Next season we should get some of the lads out on loan to a club in the Championship or perhaps League One and perhaps get two or three involved in the first team.
Congratulations to the reserves though. Its great that they won the league and shows great promise for the future.Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.
Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I understand what you are saying mate but I can't remember the last time we sent someone on loan and they came back a star player in the first team.Originally posted by Angry Dan View PostI really think we need to forge strong links with a lower league team to get some of these young players to the next level. Someone will remind me.
If Peter Crouch can't get a game then things ain't looking good for Pachecho at the moment.
Maybe a Carling Cup appearance.
The thing is, these lads need to take their chance when they get the opportunity.
Look at El Zhar for example.
Plessis obviously done a lot right in the reserves for Rafa to pick him at The Emirates but would it be good to send him out on loan now??
I don't know.

Sending players out on loan has to be a good thing as it gives them something to play for. Beckham went out on loan to Preston for a while before coming back to United and I think Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell both went out to lower league clubs.
Winning the reserves title is great but its not exactly competitive football is it?
If the young lads can go out, get some first team experience in a competitive league and come back then so much the better. If they are good enough, they will make it.Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.
