I haven't heard this header get the credit it deserves so far. Absolutley stonking it was, can't remember a better header all season.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.
From Wiki: Hyypia is a very imposing player at central defence what with his height (6"4) and strength. Composed and assured in his defending and tackling, Hyypia has been regarded as one of Liverpool's most consistent and dependable players in recent years. Though he does lack pace, even from his younger playing days, he compensates this with his good sense of positioning and reading of the game. He is also a scoring threat from set pieces and has scored some very memorable and important goals for Liverpool in the past from these situations. Now entering the twillight years of his footballing career, Hyypia continues to perform consistently whenever he is called upon for either club or country.
Extremely pleased for him. I watched the game with my bluenose mate and he was gushing about the header - "unstoppable", "brilliant". He's been threatening to score for a while and he couldn't have picked a better moment.
It was an absolutely perfect header. Welll weighted, gave it just enough power and direction to do the job. He could not have put it anywhere else on goal and succeeded. Pretty much every other part of the goal was covered except that teeny weeny little bit!!
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.
Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."
Things seemed to go in slow motion for Sami's goal - Stevie swung the boot, and out of the corner of your eye, you can see that there is a red shirt unmarked near the centre circle….who is it? Oh yes! It's only the best header of a ball in our team! And he nails it…just the right amount of pace and in the best place you could possibly put it, above shortarse on the post and out of reach of the ridiculously-barneted goalkeeper.
