last weekends game had weakened teams for as purpose......BOTH teams were out of the title picture and only had the CL to play for. no-one says a peep because everyone knew that. when benitez tinkers with his team from the very start people were talking because it's a stupid ****ing thing to do. he has consistently over the last 10 games or so kept the same starting line-up barring injuries or suspensions and we have been in great form winning the majority of our games. IMO benitez was slaughtered because if he hadn't tinkered as much perhaps we would have been fighting for the title right now.Originally posted by Yozza View Posthttp://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...9520-20380458/
The Arsenal boss rested five first-team regulars against Liverpool last Saturday to keep them fresh for Europe. It cost them the points which probably cost him the title but no one said a peep. When Benitez did that earlier in the season he was slaughtered for being a Tinkerman.
Liverpool clawed their way back into Wednesday's game via Sami Hyypia's free header at a corner, yet no one pointed out the deficiencies of Wenger's man-to-man marking system. Whenever Liverpool concede from a set-piece, Benitez is savaged for employing zonal marking.

as for the zonal marking - i'm not a fan of it at all. i prefer the man-to-man marking at set-pieces. HOWEVER, that is just my preference. most of our goals conceeded at set plays recently have come from poor goalkeeping decisions by reina.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Arseanl weren't - if they had beaten us and produced a win at OT tomorrow they would be 1 point behind Utd.

Reade is normally quite a good read however that article is pretty poor.
Wenger get so much credit and adulation from the media for a number of reasons. Primarily his teams have always played wonderful football. He's won the league on several occasions. He took a team throughout an entire league season undefeated. He generally nurtures talent he does not spend outlandish sums on players compared to Man U, Chavs and dare i say ourselves.

Think he was talking about this season in the main though, not past history. Still, as Reade points out Benitez has a good past record too.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostReade is normally quite a good read however that article is pretty poor.

It's pretty hard to argue with any of it really..."the correct decision would have been a penalty for us a red card for Gattuso and a yellow for Stevie"

He has done a great job at Arsenal but he has his faults that are often glossed over while Rafa can't breathe without getting criticized for it. He's gone a little too far criticizing Wenger to prove his point in this article but he's not wrong either. You just have to remember what Wenger has achieved at Arsenal. Because this one week has gone terribly for Arsenal he's open for criticism, but if a couple of pen decisions had gone differently he would be hailed as a genius again, there is such a fine line between success and failure and the media take their criticism and statements too far imo. Rafa deserves alot of credit, but if we'd lost I can only imagine the **** in the papers
Even our own fans were ripping Rafa at times this season, calling for Mourinho to replace him

How stupid does that look now?
It's crazy how the opinions in football in England seem to change with the wind, one day a guy is a genius, the next he's nothing, then he's back to being a genius, all in one season, often after one single game or performance. It's the ultra-critical, drama inducing media that shape alot of opinions imo, they are too quick with definitive opinions- "this team is out of the title race, this team is doomed, this player is ****, this player is the best in the world, rotation doesn't work, zonal marking doesn't work etc" without looking at the big picture. It's not so simple, every manager rotates, zonal marking works more than it doesn't, but if something goes wrong they try to make huge generalizations based on 1 event

But we all know which numpties were doing that, without naming names, a few of them have changed their tune over the last few weeks as well. I'm sure as soon as we lose a game they'll be back at it again!
