I think the real kicker is those games after Christmas like Man City where we didn't look like we could score in a brothel and the Reading game where we also seemed in capable of doing anything useful. In a way the thing is that we can point to areas of real progress but also to a lack of any signs of progressing in terms of having the right mentality to win a league and/or beat United.Originally posted by Parm View Postif only we'd beaten the mancs home and away, we'd be a lot closer. We have progressed since last season because we have a more genuine goal threat from a certain Mr Torres however still don't have that killer ruthlessness against the top sides where we don't need to play especially well but nick a goal like Man Utd against Arsenal yesterday. They didn't play exceptionally well, I thought it was a very good Arsenal display who collapsed after conceding.
This side next season will have matured and will have experience of playing with each other and it is just a matter of filling in a few pieces of the jigsaw. Just seen a stat and we have only dropped four points since the Inter game in February which is extraordinary as Man Utd have only dropped two points in the same span.
We can now say we have a system that suits our style of play, that suits the players, the manager, it is just, as I said, filling in the gaps. A couple of fullbacks, right winger, second striker and a striker.
