Tom Hicks has launched yet another blistering attack on Rick Parry, the Liverpool chief executive.

The Anfield co-owner, whose relationship with his business partner, George Gillett Jr, has disintegrated over recent months, claims Parry has taken the club too far backwards.

"Look at what's happened under Rick. It has been a disaster," Hicks said. "We have fallen so far behind the other leading clubs.

"We should have the stadium built by now. We have a few major sponsors when we should have 15.

"We have still got the top brand in the world of football but that's no good if you don't know how to commercialise it.

"Rick needs to resign from Liverpool FC. He has put his heart into it but it is time for a change.

"You have to be able to work with the manager and Rick has proved he can't do that."

In a revealing and wide-ranging interview on Sky Sports News, the American businessman admits he had never heard of Jurgen Klinsmann before approaching the German to take over from Rafael Benitez, claims he wants to extend the Spanish manager's contract and insists he will buy the club from Gillett.

Talking about the team now, he couldn't be any more vague just saying he keeps in contact with Rafa over the phone and about his contract extension

He didn't know who klinsmann was - He looked him up on the internet, he said gillette met klinsmann for 3 hours on his own - then hicks and his son got there and met with klinsmann for another 3 hours.

He said they've had problems with the new stadium plans - Said he's tried to get parry to resign for the last 6 months, but Gillette won't have any of it because of his friendship with parry.

Now saying he wants to get rid of all the debt on the club and get the finances in place for the stadium

Did talk to DIC about letting them have 49% ownership, didn't have the same visions as hicks - didn't feel they'd be the right partners, says he won't have anymore 50/50 partners

Says the fans gave them both a heros welcome, says the fans think they're gonna fix it - and they haven't fixed it (right away?) - says he WILL fix it now.

Says fans don't like they've borrowed too much to buy club and build the stadium and he's going to fix that, and he's got a track record for 35 years

He was the one who told Rafa to concentrate on coaching his team and leave the transfer business to Parry and that wasn't six months ago.

I can feel for Rafa because sitting here and seeing all these things unfolding, you wonder who can you actually trust.

The biggest blow must be the fact that Parry was at the meeting, regardless whether he was asked to or not, because we would have thought he is the guy we can at least trust to fend off the Americans. He maybe incompetent but you would have thought he is "on our side" of the fence at least.

He`s right on two accounts:

- Parry isn`t up for the job. But the club needs Parry until Hicks leaves. When the ownership is resolved Parry needs to go no matter who wins.
- Hicks has a 35 years track record. The problem here is that the record isn`t very good.

Let's take it from there. He's in a no win situation ... He can't be that daft and persist in owning the club if he's not sure he'll be a success. Businessmen are risk takers anyway, so I'll give him full marks for wanting to take on this challenge, as it's a really big one, probably the greatest of his life.

We should cut the rash comments, imo, and sit tight waiting for the next move. Every party in this saga, since it's started, has been guilty of bad PR, including Rafa. Nobody is above the club, and we should reserve judgement when all the facts are clear.

The only things believable in the interview IMO is that he is correct in assesing that he will never go for a 50-50 "adventure" again... It has proven a disaster this time around, and would with DIC as well if they have a different vision. In that sense I am happy they haven't come in, would not have brought us any further.

Secondly I could actually believe it was Gillet who set up the interview with klinsmann and not hicks. Not saying Hicks is without blame in it, he clearly is, but I think that Gillet might have played a far greater role in getting rid of Rafa than what we where let to believe.

The part about Parry is no real suprise - supporters have said this for years. Said it in the other thread earlier, but this might be the first time in years that supporters have been behind Parry. Whoever takes charge must find a new CEO...

But it is laughable that he will buy out Gillet, get rid of the debt and still finance a new stadium!!! FFs, that would take up all his other assets...

Rafa Benitez will get contract extension, pledges Tom Hicks

RAFA BENITEZ will get a one-year contract extension if Tom Hicks gets to buy out the club from partner George Gillett.

Hicks told Sky Sports News: ``If I were to buy George out the first thing I would do is offer Rafa a one-year extension to make sure he is going to be here up to when we get the stadium.

“Hopefully we could have some success and then extend him again.

“Rafa and the players have their heads down. They are playing great. We communicate regularly. I know he feels comfortable with the way things are going.

“I think we will continue to have success. I think Rafa has unique skills, he motivates the team and we have some great players who are learning how to play with each other.”

Hicks admitted it was frustrating that his unpopularity with Liverpool fans has prevented him from bringing his whole family to Anfield to watch matches.

“My family loves Liverpool. The sad thing is that right now we can’t go there as a family until we get this thing sorted out,” he added.

It's clear he's trying to win back fans. But again, we should sit tight as we don't know the full ramifications of it all. I certainly don't want him here, but in the grand scheme of things, if there are no other options, I'd prefer he took sole control therefore ensuring a certain level of stability as regards the mud slinging.

We need this settled quick, one way or another. And like it or not, Hicks won't go away easily. In the short term, it's in our best interests he stays and gets full ownership. This will ensure Rafa gets another contract and our transfer plan is put into place asap.

This is crucial.
