Really? I would have though last night showed exactly how he would have done so in a league with less physical and accomplished defenders. He makes people make mistakes and like Andy Cole in the 90s if you have the willing to keep missing chances and try again you don't have to be efficient to be prolific if you have enough chances."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Also think it is worth mentioning how mcuh better his 1st touch has got again of late. Ball was really sticking to him yesterday.

Andy Cole played for an all-conquering team who swept all before themOriginally posted by dww View PostReally? Kuyt played for Feyenoord who, as far as I am aware, were far from dominant.
Either he hasn't shown what he's got to offer in terms of finishing since he's been at Anfield, or the defending/goalkeeping over there is exceptionally poor. He reminds me of Cisse in front of goal - all panicked power, no placement and little accuracy.
His movement is good though. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

That's so true.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostThe goal summed him up to a tee IMO. Just sheer endeavour and heart. He had a really good game.
Displayed his lack of killer instinct and poor touch earlier however when Xabi put him in and he failed to capitalise. This is why he's far better off for having been taken out of the middle.
He gets more space in wide areas and his lack of pace and strength is more manageable in wider areas than it is down the middle.

Torres was quick and strong enough to get a decent shot away though.Originally posted by dww View PostTorres was guilty of failing in his one clear cut chance too. I think that a large part of the problem in the middle was that we just weren't playing frequently enough in the final third and he is always going to be more of an Andy Cole than a van Nistelrooy in the box.
We really need the likes of Babel to learn from him in terms of getting into the box from a wide starting position though. If Babel added that to his game, which ought to be relatively simple he would be twice the player he is now IMO.

I think that the as Nic says the nature of the Dutch league means that you don't need to play for an all conquering team to get a lot of chances and for me the fact that Dirk creates positions/chances for himself with his workrate and moevement would amplify that effect. Cisse also scored a lot of goals in a weaker league - I guess in lesser leagues one exceptional area in your game be it pace or movement can be enough.
It is also possible that confidence plays a part in the failure to keep composed in front of goal. It could be that being a big fish in the small Dutch pond was good for him psychologically."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Woo hoo, another positive thread concerning Kuyt. I wont repeat what I have written in countless other Kuyt threads, but I think he is vital to our current formation and has made a huge contribution to our current good run. I would hate to be playing against him, he would not give you a second on the ball.

I think he has a touch of the Dalglish arse on him, so he does have some strength, although he does get knocked off the ball a little easy at times.Originally posted by DJS View PostI would.
He has to seriously break his back to beat most players in a physical battle. He's weak.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Kuyt is a fantastic player, and I'll be glad to see the player 'supposed' to be replacing him next season. There won't be many I'm afraid. He's exceptional at what he does.
