And my point was, if he was a true true world class keeper as you lot all seem to think, then surely 2 clubs just couldn't have missed this MASSIVE potential!!
Thing is Friedel is 37 now, so doesn't exactly have long to go, whereas Reina is 23/24 now, so is possibly only going to get better. So why replace a keeper on the up with one coming to the end of his career?

Players don't always become world class at the first (or second) club. Sometimes it can take time to blossom.

And did Villareal sell him, or did we buy him? I doubt they WANTED to get rid.

He was very young at Barca and Villareal didn't want him to go, they just understood how good he was and didn't want to stand in his way of playing at a top club.

If Friedel is sooooo good why did we let him go and why should we sign him back now he's close to getting his bus pass?

Oh and your opinion is wrong.

          Friedel's class, but he's 37 ffs.

I think Reina is better than Victor Valdes (Barca Keeper) who gives you the same reassurance as Charles Itandje does in goal !

I think Villarreal didn't have much choice with letting him go as a bigger club (Liverpool) came in for him. So they took the money instead of rejecting it and having an unhappy player on their books

Shall we try Lisbon and Guimares?

If Cech is soooooooooo good, why did 3 clubs Blsany, Sparta Prague and Rennes let him go?? See, anybody can bring up a baseless and stupid sentence to back up their opinion.

You don't rate Reina as highly as many on this forum and that's fine i've got no peoblem with that, but the fact is that the opinion of only one person matters in this instance and that is Rafa Benitez and he places Pepe in the top 3 keepers in the world with Cech and Casillas.

Those clubs are selling clubs mate, they can only survive by selling their top players, unlike Villarreal and more so Barca, who are now 2 of europes top teams and a sanctuary for the worlds best, and capable of winning top honours

Ask fergie how difficult it is to get a keeper that has the mental strenght to be at a top top club.

James is a great example. will always look good has bags of ability but put him in the top 4 and he would go to pieces. Every single time he has been under pressue he has bottled it. Which is a shame but he has the physical ability but just not strong enough.

I think an interesting example is Almunia at Arsenal - never really played a great deal of football and then after one season as a first team regular at a relatively old age Wenger buys him and now he has established himself as a solid keeper at a top team. On the face of it he has much less talent than, say, David James but his mentality is much better.
