i'd go as far as to say Pennant probably deserves to play some part on Weds...he's been better than Babel lately

Did well to come back and Pennant did well. Goal came from more terrible Riise defending.
I will not be happy if he starts Wednesday. He is a liability
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
      everyone wants to know

Rafa must have brought him off for a reason. Either to rest him for Wednesday or he knew about Insua's ability to attack. Either way, I think Arbeloa should be switched to left back and Finnan to right back.

Riise will play on Wednesday. Hopefully with Arbeloa at RB. I'd be happy with that.

Glad to see Pennant playing well. I thought that his performance v Milan and pre season form would see him shine, what a shame he couldn't have produced earlier. Be a good oprion to have coming of the bench though. He's not the same player on the left and I think Kuyt deserves to start on Wednesday.

Didn't see the game but it was great to see Insua played a part. Plessis was great v Arsenal, sounds like he was poor to average today, which should calm down the people who think we can do without another CM if Alonso goes. If we want to win the prem then Plessis and Lucas are not quite ready for the job. Another season for them and we'll hopefully be thinking of big things.

Now let's see Nemeth and San Jose get some action on the pitch.

I would like to see Pennant go against Cole. He likes his little duel with him but currently, people will say, if its not broken, don't fix it. The performance against Chelsea on Tuesday was good in all areas but the result wasn't.

Pennant will be on the bench on Wednesday.

Reasonable performance from the second string today....good workout for the fringe players and Champions league football guaranteed for next year which is great.

We can totally concentrate on Wednesday now......i reckon it's about 50/50 but whatever i reckon the boys will put in a great performance, let's just hope it's enough.

Pennant is possibly a better RW than Kuyt but Kuyt is so much better in the attacking/DEFENSIVE role Rafa wants.

to be a winger in Rafa`s team you need a great cross while being able to track back and make that killer tackle in defense when needed.

Kuyt beats Pennant because Pennant cuts inside to many times.

Much much better from Pennant today. Excellent performance.

Another start and another goal for Crouch. His last three starts against Arsenal, Fulham and Brum have yielded a goal a game. I really hope he decides to stay. A very classy finish today.

Insua's progressive attitude is a joy. OVERLAP OVERLAP OVERLAP! We need to see him tested defensively but in possession and off the ball going forward he is excellent.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He was afraid to play! He tried 5 passes, 3 of them were horrible so he didn't even try to play anymore, he was just passing to Sami, Škrtel or Lucas. He was horrible. Yossi and Pennant had to play wingers and midfielders cause Plessis and Lucas were nowhere.
Some of his passing was a bit wayward and he wasn’t as composed as against Arsenal, but he still produced a couple of lovely balls during the game. For the less experienced of the two, he also took more responsibility in the midfield. Lucas was anonymous for the majority of the game, although it was a lovely cross for Benni’s goal. He didn’t do too bad considering it wasn’t a great team performance.

Although Birmingham were already buckling under the pressure, we looking a much better team with Insua on for Riise. He had some lovely touches and kept play flowing forward.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Plessis was good in patches - clearly inexperienced but theres ability there no doubt.
Lucas - Has got better as the season has gone on imo and will be one to watch next season.
Insua - Looked good but wasnt really troubled defensively so hard to tell what he's like when on the back foot.

Voronin is a pox of a player without one single attribute that would make me think hes worth a shirt.
Riise - Own goal or no own goal ive never rated him and yesterdays lacklustre showing is proof if any were needed that he should be moved on.

Clearly, with very few exceptions, our squad players arent good enough.
