    Jaidi -offside?

Can anyone tell me why the guy was not considered to be offside for Birmingham's second goal?

He's in an offside position and clearly interfering with play: "Interfering with an opponent means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or movements or making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent"

He well made up for it with the Benayoun goal.

He didn't touch the ball, so therefore he's not considered offside.

      Stupid rule though

The offside rule is ****. They need to sort it out and make it nice and simple like it used to be.

But the current rule says about interfering with play, or gaining an advantage. Surely he was doing that?

He was interfering with Reina's view. That is deemed as gaining an unfair advantage.

Difficult to prove though isn't it?

How can anyone prove he was interfering with the keepers view? You can't ergo not interfering with play.

The referee can see where Jaidi is standing. Surely by looking, you can determine the goalkeepers disadvantage?

                  Where does it end?

For example, a player has a shot form 30 yards which flies in, but there's a player, nowhere near the ball in the box in an offside position.
Does the keeper claim that his view was being interfered with by the other player?

It's a daft rule, I agree with reece about going back to the good old days when men could understand the offside rule but women couldn't. Now no-one knows what's going on.

The current offside rule is a bloody shambles. Remember us getting a goal at Ewood park a few years ago where Cisse let the ball run after initially intending to go for it from an offside position, but Robbie took it on and stuck into the back of the net.

That was the old offside rule.

                        I didn't mind that

I remember Andy Gray moaning for days, weeks about that. Cisse motioned to the ball and pulled his leg back knowing he was in an offside position and the ball was squared to Fowler for an easy finish. Exquisite.

Wow. I'm actually amazed that Cisse knew what offside meant.

I believe Houllier taught him that at Clairfontaine.
