There didn't appear to be any at the pub where I watched the match.

I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

Pennant was MOTM on Saturday, and was only on the pitch for a small fraction of tonight's game. He's not the reason why we lost.

Same goes for Kuyt, he worked hard tonight and got in a good position to force a good save from Cech. He's not the reason why we lost.

Bennayoun didn't have a great game, but was wonderful for Torres's goal. He's not the reason why we lost.

You can't win them all, and we were in the running right until the last minute of extra time. We played alright tonight. Small things make the difference in games like this, and the turning point of the tie was Riise's own goal. Without that we'd have been through. But I can't even blame him, as Carra said in the build up, both him and Gerrard have scored OGs in big games. It can happen to anyone.

There's no point dissolving into bitterness. It just wasn't our night.

That's a great post mate but it has to be said that within that tie there were two 15 minute periods (one at home and one away) where we could have really put it to bed at didn't due to over caution and negative approach. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's like we were always more comfortable chasing it. Once we got to the stage where we could make the tie ours, we seemed to back off and play safety-first. Maybe Hicks (of all people) was onto something when he said we have a bit of an inferiority complex at times against the top sides. It's easy when no-one expects you to win, but maybe we can't quite take the pressure of being favourites.
