    What did tonight teach us?

It taught me that Xabi, Kuyt, Yossi and Riise are not good enough for the first team.

Kuyt and YOssi I think we can make a case for them to be in the squad. The other two though need to go. In the case of Xabi, I could not have imagined myself saying that 2 years ago. But for the past two years he has been poor and in the last year he has gotten worse. He NEVER used to get caught in posession, nowadays he gets caught all the time. I can't think of a single thing he did today which enhanced our chance of winning.

Based on Lucas' last 3 games I think I'd even swap him for Xabi.

So Xabi, Riise and Yossi out of here. Kuyt in the squad.

    Am I missing anyone?

It's all very well passing the ball around between our CM's and defenders, but we have no real link between our midfield and attack. Wingers and Gerrard (in attacking mid) simply aren't good enough.

I don't think it really taught us anything we didn't know.

Those players weren't good enough this morning and they aren't good enough now.

The one thing I would say is that we need players to come on, make an impact and change the game. I know Babel scored tonight but Pennant was poor and he was the first tactical substitution made.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Not to bet on us winning 1-3 at Stamford Bridge?

Could be based on first leg, but I'm basing my perspective on him post his first season. I love him, but he has been so poor for the last couple of years that a replacement, could improve us no end.

Tonight taught us we have no wingers and we can't be a top team without them.

it teaches us that to beat the top teams, we have to learn how to control a ball.

I think we lack quality in the wide areas in the final third, you're right about Kuyt and Benayoun, we're behind Man Utd and Chelsea because we don't have a genuine attacking threat from anyone other than Gerrard and Torres. When these players aren't on their game then we struggle to consistently create good chances because there is no other threat.

In the summer we need two fullbacks and two wingers/final third players.

...Although we knew most of that before but today highlighted it for me
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

i ha ve just woken up from a 4 year coma..... how are my beloved reds getting on...

are they still playing ****e under ged???

are they still a hoof-it-up-to-owen team???

have we qualified for the champions league in the last couple of years???

have we signed any world class players???

                            have we won any trophies???

i know we all have expectations buddy but get a****ing grip... 2 champions league finals in 4 seasons under rafa. Team is getting better every year... and in all honesty it is liverpool and arsenal that are going to be the two teams best equiped to get better and better over the next 5 years....

i am as disappointed as everyone else but knee-jerk reactions like this is ust crazy..... look at the bigger picture.....

yes we need a few more players and maybe you are correct about certain players but le's be honest, if the players had the same attitude as you, then torres, gerrard, mascherano would all be handing in transfer requests right now.... your orriginal post shouts of a madrid or barca type fan..... total knee jerk....

at the end of the day, individual errors, namely riise and hyypia ****ed it up for us over 2 legs.....

but walk on through the storm buddie

Tonight taught us that our fullbacks are dreadful and we are still carrying passengers elsewhere. One big magic signing in the summer won't cure our woes.
