4th place and CL semi final

A sucess (taking into account the 3 teams above us) and a good CL run losing to a good Chelsea team or was the season a failure. We should be much closer to the top or even challenging, and we should have buried Chelsea at Anfield. ???

We haven't won anything so the season can't be anything higher than average.

And we should be getting 4th anyway.

Its been a **** season as far as I'm concerned.

Far too much has happened off the field and we haven't been in the title race since the turn of the year.

Top four was the minimum we could have expected.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Its not been the best of seasons. Some positives and some negatives. There have been some amazing highs this season- Arsenal in the Champions League, Inter in the CL, beating Everton but we have experienced some lows like Barnsley, Chelsea tonight, Man U twice.

Forgot about all the off field ****.

Looking forward to next season then.

If I had said to you when Rafa joined our league finishes would be 5th, 3rd, 3rd and 4th would you say his league performance had been a success?

When you consider that Houllier finished 3rd, 2nd, 5th, 4th in his last four season I'd argue that Rafa still has some way to go to before he can be given that "success" tag.

not good enough, i know off the pitch hasn't helped but out of the league by xmas and to have lost because of our clear lack of quality in key areas tonight.

last year for rafa to put things right imo. it doesn't matter if he has 20 million or 200 million - he needs to spend it on key positions. if all he buys is 1 player it needs to be a second striker or a right sided midfielder.

Rafa has had more success in Europe compared to Houllier who only won the UEFA Cup. With Rafa, you can see there is some sort of vision for the future whilst Houllier seemed clueless about his aims.

Average season, am dissapointed we didn't win anything and that we weren't closer to the title, but I'm a bit more optimistic for next season than I was for this. We've not lost as many league games as we usually do, we've performed better against the other top 4 sides in the head to heads than in previous years, and with a couple of good signings we can push on and challenge next year.

Cup competitions were a bit of a disappointment but a champions league semi final which we were unlucky in isn't too bad.

If we get the ownership stuff sorted out before next season and we sign quality rather than quantity in the summer then I'll be happy going into next season
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Crazy people. Rafa has been our guiding light this season and the others. Can anyone remember the 90's ffs. It seems we've all got short memories. And we miss out by a nat's cock to a team that spent 1/2 a billion £££ ovre the last few years. Given our team investment, can we have expected any more? It seems we should have. No, we have over achieved for all of Rafa's years and we need to rally round him now the candle has dimmed this season.

For a "club in crisis", we've done pretty well. The first season under Rafa where we haven't had at least one final to look forward to.

                        Keep the faith.

Off the pitch I would agree with you. I can see to an extent what he's trying to do. Then again we appear to have far, far too many players at our club who either aren't good enough to demand a first team spot or aren't even remotely close to getting into the first team and are clogging up Melwood in the process. And those that are getting there, breaking into the first team consists more of getting a half of football with 2 games left in the season rather than making meaningful contributions throughout the campaign.

The long-term aim though must be to compete for the league title and four seasons in that hasn't ever looked like happening. Even at the start of this season when we were unbeaten we were dropping far too many points that we shouldn't have been and when the expected dropped points came this meant we fell off the pace.

4th place in the league and a good cup run is the absolute minimum any Liverpool manager in this day and age, with the money we have spent, should be looking to achieve. Personally I think we should have a manager that does more than the absolute minimum.

Have you actually read the forum?
