    Alonso staying.

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso says he has no intention of leaving the club following The Champions League exit against Chelsea.

The Spaniard had his sights set on a place in the Moscow final but Chelsea finally undid the Liverpool hoodoo to dump out the five-time champions of Europe.

The unrest in the Anfield boardroom has put the future of manager Rafa Benitez in doubt and rumours have linked Alonso with a move.

“My future is with Liverpool because I signed a contract. There are many rumours but I do not pay attention to them,” Alonso said.

“We are proud of what we have done in the Champions League and we are behind Benitez in the dressing room. I hope to play in more Champions League finals in my career.

“This defeat has hurt us a great deal but we have to show our professionalism and get on with the rest of the season.”

Hope this is the case. His form has not been the best for a while but class is permanent. We will see the best of Xabi again when we sign more top players.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
    everyone wants to know

Despite rumours about him going back to spain having problems with Benitez personally its absolute BS. I hope he stays so what he had a poor season by his standards every top player goes through this. Yeah he hasnt been hi sbest this season hopefully he comes back stronger fresh and back to his best next season.

No point selling top players when we should focus on bringing re-inforcements. They key is we have a core of players who have played together and keeping this core will help us with consistency, stability and balance.

Me too. Xabi's had a difficult season with form and injury, but there is a class player in there, one who would have cost us a lot to replace. I'm very glad he says he's staying.

Great news on the face of it but on countless occasions footballers have come out with statements like this only to move on fairly soon afterwards regardless.

I want him to stay but this doesn't change too much, IMO. He might just be trying not to rock the boat.

Not sure about this.....if someone offers good money i think we should take it.
The semifinal first leg was his one outstanding performance of the season.
