It's an hard one. But from his point of view, they're only allowed to select 3 over age players and from the talent they've chosen he's one of them.

It would have to be a massive honour and hard to turn down.

I know, club before country, but he's from a country who's national team isn't a joke so he may well see it differently.

I think a lot of other countries don't view the Olympic football in the way we do here (largely because we don't compete I suspect). If you buy international players then you know the commitments that they will have, they aren't a surprise to anyone.

I thought they had an option for some overage players?

Besides if we don't have our full compliment of top players (and we really don't have many) and I include him in that class, we might be out of the league before he returns. The margin for error is becoming smaller all the time. We could draw a game (v one of the top three) in his absence and end up losing the title by 1/2 points. I believe it could end up being that important.

I do see your point and don't want to turn this into a club v country row, However he wanted to come to england to play his football, so equally he must accept how we feel about the olympic's football tournament, no? I think he should also consider want Rafa did for him in terms rescuing him from his nightmare with the hammers. It may be an honor to play for your country in any circumstances but the event is still a joke IMO. Probably come back and fail a drugs test

Mashers trip to China has nothing to do with Gareths Barry`s possible arrival. You don`t sign a 12 mill player because Masch might miss a few games at the start of the season.
If Barry arrives expect Axbi or Lucas to go.
