Alex Miller wanted by J-League club

Liverpool first team coach Alex Miller could soon become the new manager of Japanese J-League club JEF United Chiba.

"We have drawn up a list and are hoping to make an announcement either tomorrow or the next day," JEF United's Kentaro Shiga said."Miller is one of our candidates. We have a match this weekend so we want to name the new manager as soon as possible. We should have more details in the next day or two."

Japanese media reported that the struggling J-League side, who sacked Croatian Josip Kuze in midweek, have offered Miller (pictured, left, with manager Rafael Benitez) a salary of £500,000 a year. Chiba are currently rooted firmly to the bottom of the J-League first division without a win in 11 matches this season.

Miller, 58, managed Scottish clubs Hibernian and Aberdeen before joining Liverpool's backroom staff in 1999 as chief scout under then manager Gerard Houllier. The Scot was promoted to first-team coach after Spaniard Benitez's arrival as manager of the Premier League side in 2004.

A guy on YNWA says that he's been told that Miller has accepted the position.

Not good news for us if true. We could do without losing any more of the backroom staff. Maybe the stories from earlier in the season of Sammy Lee coming back are true. He could fill the role quite well imo.

Bizarre, why would he want to go to the J League? I would have honestly thought his role at Liverpool is higher profile than that.

Hope he stays but I'm sure Rafa could find an able replacement if he leaves and you can understand why Miller would want to push on and get into management.

BTW I get John Lennon in my head for about an hour every time I read one of your posts mate.

When I was trying to think up a username I was listening to some Lennon and Mind Games came on. Hence the username.

I think a Key position to be filled this summer was one of Assistant, it become all the more important if Alex does leave. From what i have seen, Alex gets on with all the lads and they really seem to like him as a coach and a person.

good luck to him if he does go
Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet.

Yep of course the money, its always about the money.

I also think its a bizarre appointment from their end too. I know hes managed in Scotland before, but where did they pluck his name out of thr air from? I can only assume they are Liverpool fans and thats where the idea came about.

Yeah mate, I see what you mean, but it's hardly backroom **** if he's got a better offer elsewhere.

Well it's better than what I came up with mate.

Apparently he's had a counter bid from Alun Parry's AFC Liverpool ...
