Liverpool ask Anderson to test himself in Championship

The credit for unearthing this should go to Eth on ST, you have to say it is a good spot.

    08 May 2008
By Chris Harby [The world reknown Melton Times]
THURSDAY, 4pm: Liverpool FC flyer Paul Anderson will be back on the road next season to test his mettle in the Championship after a superb loan spell with Swansea City.
A fine season at the Liberty Stadium for the former Melton Foxes player was capped last week when he picked up City's Young Player of the Year Award on Thursday.

Just two days later he then got his hands on the League One trophy and a championship winners' medal in his first full season in professional league football.

But Liverpool want the 19-year-old, from John O'Gaunt, to spend more time on loan and assess his impact on the Championship with several teams interested in capturing his signature.

Anderson said:"I know I'm going back on loan, but haven't got a clue for what team.

"I know there are quite a lot of clubs interested, but I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

"Hopefully by the end of May we will have things sorted out and I can go and enjoy my summer.

"I would like to stay at Liverpool and give it a shot next season, but they want me to do a year in the Championship and see if I can step up to the next level."

The midfielder swiftly became a fans' favourite at the Welsh club after his move last August.

Despite missing almost two months through injury, he scored 10 goals, finishing as the club's joint third top goalscorer and was instrumental in the club's success.

He added: "I was made up to get the award. It is always nice to be recognised by the supporters.

"It has been a long season – it's been physically and mentally challenging.

"But playing my first year with a team that has been so successful has been really enjoyable although I understand it probably won't be the same next year.

"I didn't know much about Swansea before I went, but they are a massive club. They play great football and I think they will do well in the Championship.

"I don't know whether I will end up back there on loan, but I know for a fact they won't be relegated."
"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think it would be good for him to test the waters in the championship, he won't get much gametime for Liverpool next season. He has plenty of time, no need to rush.
    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Would surely make sense for him to stay at Swansea where he is settled and play Championship football with them.

Suppose it depends on the offers on the table.if he helped Swansea to promotion then maybe a smaller team will want him to do the same for them,Maybe.

glad he has done well, perhaps a step up in quality to say somewhere like Derby or Wolves?

They would have to ensure though that he would get some game time. No point him going anywhere if he is going to be sitting in the stands.

A loan move would be great though if he could get into a club that won't get sucked into a relagation fight. As soon as teams struggle, wingers go out of the window and the team results to long ball football.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

don't think any team would guarantee anyone that they would play regularly, I'm of the opinion that he'd probably get a lot of games with Swansea as they know what he can do but am not so sure that he'll be testing himself, I'd prefer a step to a bigger club where he'd have to fight to get a game and then fight to stay in the side, that's what he'll have to do when he eventually comes back to us

I'd say let him stay at Swansea for another season - he's settled there, he knows the players, he knows the manager, he knows the system, and he'll get games at a higher level.

he would benefit with better players around him too. a team challenging for the championship - if he was promised first team football.
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

In the first sentence, and the headline, the article states he will be in the Championship with Swansea next season.

The rest of the article then goes onto say that he hasn't got a clue where he will end up.
                          Oh I don't know.

If we wanted to test him in the Championship shouldn't he have gone back to Hull after we signed him?
