      From the sunday mirror

      -----------------------------------------------------

Fabio Capello can forget all hope of talking Jamie Carragher into playing for England again.

Liverpool's proud Scouse centre-back stepped out of international football to make sure he got more rest to stay fit for his club.

But he's still played only half an hour's less football in the whole season than team-mate Steven Gerrard has slogged through for club and country.

Carragher came top of a special Sunday Mirror check into who's played most football in all competitions at the end of a season where only one outfield player - Birmingham's Stephen Kelly - appeared in every minute of every Premier League game.

The 30-year-old defender went through a marathon 4,967 minutes for Liverpool, while his skipper Gerrard did 4,995 including his England games.

Carragher said: "I said when I stepped away from playing for England that it would help my fitness to keep myself right for Liverpool, and this proves I made the right decision.

"I feel I've benefited from regular rests during international weeks and it has helped with little knocks and niggles clearing up. My only disappointment was that Stevie and I didn't have another 90 minutes to add to the total by playing in the Champions League Final as well!"
