Play with two up front against the top 3 sides. One striker up top doesn't work against them I'm afraid. Needs a change in mentality. Will that happen though?!

How we can overtake Man Utd

Shift Gerrard on the right of the three. Harder to track and the ability to switch with the player playing in the middle of the three. Gerrard against the more intelligent centre backs and managers doesn't have the guile and intelligence to outwit defenders and holding midfielders. Could you imagine someone like Evra, Cole or Clichy trying to pick up Gerrard and track him all the time? No.

What we need to do is concentrate on our own points total. Forget about everyone else.
We got 76 this year, not to bad. If we improve that next year we will more likely than not be in the title race. We got 4 points out of 18 against the big 4, we can't really get any worse.
An improvement against the lesser teams is needed - we know we are already better than them so we're not a million miles away from improving on 76 points. Any extra points against the big 3 will be a bonus and will result in even more ground being gained.
Man Utd and Chelsea can improve there squads as much as they want. They will not get that many more points. So as long as we get better than the other teams, we will be able to compete next year.Forwards.......

No need to shift Gerrard. Just sign more quality on the wings. This will mean a man marked Gerrard will free up space for our other quality players.Originally posted by Ben Tover View PostShift Gerrard on the right of the three. This season the big 3 cut of the supply to Gerrard, making him, and therefore LFC, ineffective. This was down to two reasons. Babel lacked the concistency needed to be effective. And Kuyt lacks the skill and pace to attack teams.
On occasions something fell into place and we managed to break free from the shackles. A bit of individual magic by Torres (Chelsea and Arsenal), Kuyt or Babel finally breaking free (Arsenal) or Gerrard edging out his man marker (nearly scored a couple of crackers in games v chelsea).
At the moment we are to easy to mark out the game. Look at Ronaldo in the big games for Man Utd - ineffective as he is man marked like Gerrard is. But Man Utd have Rooney or Tevez etc, to get a goal.
Look at Chelsea when Drogba is marked out the game - they couldn't keep the ball at Anfield and lacked ideas in the league without him. Of course in the second leg we lost Skertl and he popped in two.
But the more match winners you have in your squad the more difficult it is for teams to mark you out the games and contain you. No doubt Babel will get better for us, Kuyt I'm not so sure about - maybe a full back will help us out on the right. But we need something extra next year for the BIG games.Forwards.......

lets win more matches rather than drawing.
go for the jugular against the lesser teams - anyone not in the top 10. rafa can get tactical against the top 10 if he likes but against anyone else, we have to trust in our quality to steamroller them.
thats what the mancs do. we've done it a few times but we've also held back on too many occasions.
at least reading and birmingham- two of our bogey sides - are gone. we lost 5 points agains them didnt we.

The game at Anfield- didn't deserve to get anything. Didn't create anything.Originally posted by Johnny View PostOne lucky tevez goal in the 1st game and Maschers sending off in the second...........................................
The game at Old Toilet- they were winning before Jefe's stupidity. We at the time didn't look like creating anything as well.
Its in these types of games where we need the players to play with their brain instead of their heart. I feel Gerrard gets too emotional in these games and then just loses it whilst you see Rooney get fired up for the Liverpool games - Fergie shakes him in the right way.

It would if we had two class wing backs. Two of the middle five, are attackers, 3 if you count Gerrard. Plus Torres.Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostPlay with two up front against the top 3 sides. One striker up top doesn't work against them I'm afraid. Needs a change in mentality. If Mascherano hadn't been sent off, it would have been a much much closer game.
