    Spirit Of Shankly Statement

Subject: The Economic Consequences of Mr Hicks

“We’re in the most difficult credit crunch I’ve seen in twenty years.”

See that chink of light? That’s the sign of reality cracking though the head Cowboy’s veneer of spin and nonsense. Mr Hicks knows a great deal about credit. It’s how he works, how he has always worked – five minutes on google would have made this clear to the purveyors of the finest family silver – and credit (subsequently paid off by the acquired asset, no matter how much, in the case of LFC, he insinuates the contrary on Sky Sports News) is how he will always work.

But credit isn’t working for him at the moment, on either side of the Atlantic. The Hicks banking roadshow has rattled its way across the world looking for a deal for George Gillett’s half and to finance the new stadium. It has found nothing. Now, for his project at home, he also cannot convince the banks and he’s under half as much pressure from that side of the Atlantic, as well looking for half as much money to invest.

We’ve got to keep that pressure up. Every word against Hicks, every act, makes every meeting where he’s asking for money just that tiniest bit harder. It chips away. Those who run banking institutions may not care about you but they do care about getting their money back and know the core “customer” stands against Hicks and his plans for the “product”. That “product” would be significantly weakened by Hicks, let no one make any mistake about that. His borrowing magic trick to keep the football club competitive while building the stadium and paying off debt incurred in buying the football club would be very tricky at the best of times. In the most difficult credit crunch in twenty years, it’s approaching impossible.

Let’s keep the message going out. Hicks should sell and he should sell now. We don’t want him and he isn’t able to do the job.

No money, no credibility, no honesty, no integrity, no dignity, no custodian. HICKS OUT...

    Spirit Of Shankly

Gods sake. Tell 'em to stop blabbing and actually do something. Chain yourselves to a tree on the building site or something useful.

Rhetoric is rhetoric and has rarely produced anything of value. Wise up.

Have to agree to that to be honest, although its easy to say and harder to actually get off your arse and do something, which the SoS do very well IMO! The Stanley Park dig was excellent.

There is an SOS thread over on RAWK calling for ideas that the SOS should action.

I posted basically that publicity stunts, protests and gestures are water off a ducks back and if we really want to make a difference, we have to start causing serious disruption.

It lasted about five minutes before it got deleted. It seems a lot of fans are only comfortable with the tame stuff just so they can convince themselves that they aren't accepting their fate willingly.

A pity. I think there is a lot to learn from environmental activists. They've done stuff that has worked, and even if not worked ensured that there was enough publicity so that a whole bunch of people were swayed to their cause.

If SOS don't do this kind of thing, then you'll have difficulty convincing me that this is anything other than a restricted group of people looking to gain a degree of power which is centralized today. In that case they DO NOT have my support. Until I see actions which are beneficial for ALL supporters I'll be a cynic.

We all know you are a cynic, but I think there is value in you atriculating what you think they need to do to a) be effective, b) secure your support.

BTW I'm being straight up here, as I think your views are shared by probably a large majority of LFC fans.

How about Spirit of Paisley or Spirit of Fagan as splinter groups.

How about "Spirit, of instead of talking about ****, exercising rhetoric, creating insular groups and considering esoteric goals, actually doing real stuff which advances the cause for ALL LFC supporters".

Admittedly, SOIOTASERCIGACEGADRSWATCFALG, doesn't work as well

The sentiments should be reflected though. They are clearly not at this point, myopia rules inclusion. Not a good situation.

Spirit of Shankly have made themselves well known to Liverpool fans but you kind of think they're targeting the wrong people i.e Hicks and Gillett.

It's them that they should be getting their point across to them rather than the fans, YES we know they're there and I'm all for what they're doing but they really need to get at Hicks and Gillett.

If they're so pissed off how come them nor any Liverpool fan had a pop at Hicks when he was here for the Chelsea game at Anfield. If ever they wanted to put their point across then that was the perfect time. The cunt won't be back here again for ages so the chance has now gone.

If May goes and passes without closure on DIC. Then I'm prepared to vote with my wallet.

It's time we all took responsibility on how we finance the club.

Go online for live coverage. Listen to Radio 5. Go deaf dumb and blind for Match of the Day. Get a girlfriend. Support Rangers in the UEFA cup and do a day trip.

But more than anything else, I really ****ing hate Weetabix.
