By the way, doesn't Hyypia look young?
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I laughed my through that video.

That commentator would've made a big splash anywhere.

I think you can see the difference in us there to how much we've improved now. Players like Berger jogging around, standing off the opposition, whereas now EVERYONE would be closing them down within a second or two.

Were we that bad or were they that good?

              QUOTE]

              Both.

Barca were fantastic that night - an absolute pleasure to watch. We were good for a period when the game was level but after Kluivert scored and they sat back, it was a typical 'two banks of four' Houllier team devoid of idea's when behind.

Furious at going out of the cup but it was somewhat softened by the football seen that night.

yup, no shame in losing to a side that played so well, yes we could/should have scored some more, but Barca showed us some real class in the second half. Similar story as to when Valencia came to us.
As for Marky's comments, mate the Marseille game this season was really poor

They were very good, although, to be honest, I was more impressed by Valencia, was it the year before or after?

Oh there's no doubt Valencia were a better, more rounded outfit. We led Barca and missed chances to go further ahead.

We couldn't get the ball off Valencia from start to finish. Total frustration. I've never been so at a football match before. I have to say Valencia used every trick in the book - once they went 1-0 ahead (in the 1st half) they literally killed the game. Nothing happened for us...nothing at all. Not in the 1st half after the goal nor in the whole of the 2nd. They oozed class, guile and were totally impenetrable.

                    The crushing machine!

I just hope we can become like them. They were awesome. They controlled us at Anfield. I remember them pushing out when we took free kicks and catching us offside all the time.

From then on in, in my eyes, Rafa looked the bizz.

Yup, I was at that game, went pretty much in the expectation that we were going to get beat and it was worth it just to see how they did it. I'm getting some horrible flashback too.... did we play Salif Diao in that game? I'm sure it was him I remember crashing repeatedly into the hordings beneath us as yet another Valencia player just sidesteped a flying lunge.

                        They were ace.
