Liverpool FC's kit idea was three years too late

TOP marks to Liverpool’s marketing team for the idea of launching their new home strip at five to midnight on Wednesday night. Bad luck that misfortune meant the Reds were at home watching reruns of Istanbul 2005 rather than cavorting in the city centre streets with cash burning holes in their pockets. What a shame some besuited bigwig didn’t have the same idea three years ago. The day after Liverpool’s famous fifth victory, their city centre store was closed.

    Gerrard tops Inter wish list

THE impact of Steven Gerrard’s last minute strike against Inter Milan last February still resonates around the San Siro. Gazzetta Dello Sport asked their readers which six players, in an ideal world, Massimo Morratti should buy for the club to celebrate their centenary. The result was clear: Gerrard 42%, Lampard 15.3%, Ronaldinho 13.2%, Villa 11.2%, Drogba 11% and Eto’o 7.2%.

    Final curtain for Motty

JOHN MOTSON’S a lovely man, but his days as a top class commentator have long gone. His performance during Saturday’s Cup Final was squirmingly bad. “Portsmouth think they've scored!” he screamed, anticipating a linesman’s flag which never came – and was never going to. That faux pas was followed by the declaration: “He’s got to go. He’s off,” when Niko Kranjcar was about to receive a yellow card. Poor Motty had him mixed up with the already cautioned Herman Hreidarsson. There were rumours that this was Motson’s last Cup Final. We can only hope for his sake the reports are true.

    Kenyon so lacking class

IF ever one moment summed up the contrast between the heritage and history of Manchester United and the crass coarseness of the modern Chelsea, it came on Wednesday night. United’s presentation party was led by the distinguished and respected Bobby Charlton, a staunchly one-club man who modestly declined to place a winner’s medal around his neck. Chelsea’s was preceded by Peter Kenyon, a “lifelong United fan” who scuttled away to Stamford Bridge in 2004 and couldn’t crane his pudgy neck out quickly enough to receive a loser’s medal from Michel Platini.

    * BRAZIL named an astonishing 74-man squad last week for the Olympics.

When a newspaper counted the number of English players who started Premier League matches one weekend last season, it came up with the figure 67. And the day Titus Bramble and Darren Moore play for England you know we have problems. Any wonder we haven’t won a World Cup for 42 years and failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

Was it not the case that all club employees were taken to Istanbul by the club?

Ahhh Motty, the Murray Walker of football. If he'd have had a perfect 'game' he would never have made it to an EST thread???

I couldn't care less if Motty gets it wrong now and then. I like him.
        Really?

That's my point. Does that not explain why the club shop was closed?

Could they not have got some temps in or did Liverpool suffer a labour shortage?
