are we just competing against the mancs?

ok so they sell ronaldo and finish 3rd behind chelski and us. we are 5 points ahead of them but we're 15 points off the title. i assume you'll be happy then and shut up about rafas spending against the mancs?

we're halving our distance from the title winners each season and spending wisely - although like GH in 02, this summer is crucual in that regard. anyone who can't see that is either a WUM or a retard

He'll boast about 'gross spending'. Some of them never take into consideration the balancing of the books. Chelsea and Manure just don't seem to do that.

The only reason we have spent more is because we have signed Masher. Manu haven't paid the 25M for Tevez yet but if you didn't notice he played all season for them.

So in summary ManU were Champions and added more talent (by value) to their squad. This is why your thread is derided. It's full of **** that makes no sense.

Manu had a poor year by their standards 2 years ago and we had a very balanced team. Reina + back 4 settled all year, HK came in to the side in October and offered a great balance while Gerrard was rampant on the right. With this balanced team we went on 2 great runs and nearly caught a poor Manu.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

I did some research and will go a bit off topic Liverpool vs Mancs spending discusion and include Chelsea. Of course I knew before they spend big, but the point is the most of their big money signings are flops. I dont even know where to start for it's a big list. Malouda 13m, Obi Mikel 16m, Schevchenco 30m, Wright Philips 20m, Veron 15m, Fereira, Parker ,Duff, Kezman....... and many more. Absolute champions of wasted money. And Rafa's big signings are Mash, Nando and Babel. I can't even compare this. Yes, Rafa spent big this season, but he can't be blamed for any. All good ones, no flop so far. Imagine if he had Chelsea money.

Do these Manc calculations take into account Veron, Djemba Djemba, Kleberson, Howard, etc? Not insignificant amounts.

They probably don't. Include selective stuff to help Rashid prove his point

I think the biggest difference under Rafa has been we don’t tend to loose money moving players on. It’s inevitable that not all signings work out. The problem we had was we spent so much on them under GH and they were on such high wages that we basically re-cooped nothing. Compare this to Man U, where even a flop like Veron they managed to claw back 50% of their outlay and get him off the wage bill. You think if a new manager was to come in now and wanted to overhaul the squad there wouldn’t be a tidy sum after getting rid of the players he didn’t want?

Interestingly looking in absolute terms we've never lost £13m on one player (looking at transfer fees alone) that Veron cost United.

                        Who is our biggest loss?

                        Diouf - bought £10.5m, sold £3m?
                        Cisse - bought £14m, sold £6.5m?
                        James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

                        Curtis Julian Jones Fanclub #1

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. Was that in honour of Paul Cooper?

Pettiness aside you have a very good point, United always seem to be able to sell on their flops for a fortune, we sell them on for a pittance .

Rafa does seem to have improved us in this apsect slightly though.
