    Gerrard as a team player?

Somewhat lacking IMO. Best player on the park, let's get one thing straight, he's the best player on the park. However, if you look at Rooney & Lampard, they bring others into the side far more frequently, and not just at international level. That shot on the turn was silly. He already gets a lot of assists, but (and i know this sounds silly) whilst his end product (assists and goals) is second to none his play before that stage is somewhat lacking.

His only real weakness is lack of positional discipline.

And that is why I hope we buy someone to play behind Torres and move Gerrard to Kuyts position for next season. Aguero anyone?

Disagree, he is bringing everyone into play.

How do you get 10-15 assists without being a team player?!

Having said that, he's got an annoying habit of not tracking back if he loses the ball and/or someone doesn't provide him with the perfect ball when he's made a run.

You could put Steven Gerrard out on his own and he'd still do a better job than those monkeys that are around him.

Is it just me, or does that sentence not make any sense?

I've got sympathy with the poster tbh. I can never understand why Gerrard takes our set plays. He can't even take a penalty properly so why is he taking free-kicks and corners?

A lot of what he does is about self-aggrandisement and not for the team, although admittedly if any player we have is going to do that, I would rather it was him, and of course it often comes off.

The thing is, whereas when he is utterly determined it sometimes comes off, when he is less than determined it is wasteful. I know people will simply slag me off by mentioning how many times he has pulled us out of the mire in big games, which is fair point, but there are many occassions where an appropriate delivery would be better than the attempted killer touch, which seems to be ignored by him and his bigger fans.

I love him by the way, I just think that he is often more mindful of himself than the team. Sometimes it works for us, and sometimes it doesn't. He's an intelligent captain, and ought to be able to tell the difference better than we/I can.
                              Really?
