New Fan Card - £29 per year?

On the official site they are saying that they will not be issuing new fan cards after 31st May 2008. From 1st July they'll be starting a new fan card scheme with a new card design and technology

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/tickets/fancard.htm

They say that existing card holders can still use their current cards and that more details of the new scheme will follow shortly.

However, over on another forum they are saying that the existing cards will only be valid for next season after that you'll need a new card and these new cards are going to cost a whopping £29 PER YEAR!!!

The official website is running a story about the end of the current fancard and the introduction of a new one from the beginning of next month. What this means, essentially, is that the current £3.50 fancard will only be valid for the 2008-09 season; after that, all current fancard holders will be invited to join the new scheme, which will cost £29 per year.

Obviously, this is another attempt at maximising revenue from existing fans. Whereas the current fancard was a one-off payment, the new scheme will involve an annual fee and that fee is much higher. Still, people will have to fork out if they want to get tickets: with the existing Priority Ticket Scheme remaining in situ, tickets will go to fancard holders before being released on general sale. The chances of any tickets being left at that stage are minimal, to say the least.

So anyone planning to visit Anfield just once or twice per season (or those who are on the waiting list for season tickets and/or PTS) will need to fork out £29 per year just to have any hope of getting tickets- they'll still have to spend ages on the 'phone to the ticket office to finally get their tickets, as well. Before Colt and Merg start with the "tickets aren't that hard to come by" nonsense, some people have been on the waiting list for an ST for years while others live too far away to make the trip to Anfield regularly; these people are being hardest hit by the new system.

There's no official announcement of this on the official site yet but if this is true then it's a truly shocking way of fleecing the fans.

Yeah, that's why they are so skint (the club that is, not the fans).
      Oh I don't know.

We have had one of the cheapest season tickets about for years, how the **** have they been fleecing us?

Try being a Spurs or Arsenal fan and then moan about getting fleeced.

Exactly - our season ticket prices are on par with Hull City's FFS... our season ticket is one of the best deals in the premiership if not world football!
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

          F*** off!!!

Liverpool is still one of the cheapest Premier League clubs but that doesnt mean it is cheap.

Its a bit much to pay for the hope of a ticket though. If you went to every game using your fan card it probably puts about £1.25 on the price of your ticket which doesnt seem to bad but most fan card holders wont go to every game so its just another way of rising the price of a ticket. A kind of 'stealth tax' if you will.

Quite ridiculous really. I find it infuriating how corporations can seemingly charge anything they like for documentation these days citing 'Administrative Costs' as the reason for exorbitant fees.

I think it's a good idea. The ridiculous fact is we have well over a quarter of a million fan card holders. Basically there are people with half a dozen or more making the odds of getting a ticket very slim.

Cut down the numbers of fan cards, very sensible, I hope the fee is annual

If you're a fan who can only get to one game a season this will almost double the cost of the ticket for you.

It's basically, as you said, asking people to pay for right to pay for a possible ticket. This isn't going to make tickets any easier to come by either.

Don't get started on German prices or we'll all be depressed, the price of watching football over there is cheap, VERY VERY CHEAP, Ridiculously low priced in fact.
