Proof that the English market is a load of bollix....

right, i know that a lot of posters on here didnt want us interested in him, and although i think he might have been worth a punt, but Dos Santos moved to Spurs for 4.7m today...with the possibility of another 3m or so based on performances.....

lets be totally honest... ramsey may turn out to be the dogs bollix but to me, a 19 year old who has played for and scored a hat-trick for barca, and cant get fully into the team because the likes of Messi, Eto'o, Henry, Iniesta, Bojan and Ronaldino are in his way, for cheaper than a 17 year old cardiff city midfielder, represents a serious gulf in value-for-money.....

The same could be said about Barry for 14m - not too sure if that is good value to be honest considering that we will never get anything back for him because he is 28 now - perhaps we would be better off going for a player at least 2 or 3 years younger so at least if it doesnt work out, then we can recoup the cash....

Overall point....english players are ****in over-priced big style

What will happen to their values if the 6 + 5 rule comes in?? It is a joke - I think Spurs will end up paying more fo John Bostock than Dos Santos, Bostock being the 16 year old they signed from Crystal Palace.

It is a good point: on paper it would appear that Dos Santos should be of a highly value than Ramsey.

I would of taken a gamble on Dos Santos for the terms spurs have agreed with. Not a huge gamble.Walcott is probably the player i would compare Santos with.Possibly lennon aswell. How much would they cost to buy.

If Arbeloa was English,we would of paid maybe 6-8m for him.

I think that value for Barry is what you would pay for most international centre mids to be honest. Not that much more than we got for Sissoko.

With the Dos Santos deal you have to factor in wages. Not that I have any firm idea but I would imagine the lad from Barca will be on more than Ramsey will be. That's not to say that British youth is not over valued but I think that overall the market isn't as ridiculous as some make out.

Similarly, English players are derided by those who see a name like 'Gareth Barry' compared to 'Jérémy Toulalan' and automatically make judgements based on who is the most 'fashionable' out of the two.

Also, the reason Barca sold Dos Santos is because he hadn't developed as they had hoped at all. The hat-trick that you mention was the only game in which Dos Santos scored for them all season.

Personally, I think Tottenham have taken a gamble on this lad. He clearly wasn't good enough for Barca and is liable to have the ****e kicked out of him in the Premiership. Whereas Ramsey is being sold against the will of Cardiff and has spent his entire professional development playing the same type of football endemic to the Prem.

Over rated, over priced ****in English players.

The only England player worth a **** is Gerrard, and we've already got him

Take in to account the rising cost of the Euro and it represents even better VFM. In all seriousness

I used the same example before, it's a crazy market

Even foreigners already in the premier league cost ****loads if you want to buy them. No wonder we have so many of them.

I think Barry out and Alonso in for a similar fee is reasonable business though. Plus we have one more Englishman and one less foreigner in the side, a good thing, just in case this 6+5 ever happens.

yup, look Dos Santos was a prospect a year or 2 ago, but he really hasnt kicked on, not developed and if he really was that good, then why would Barca sell him given that they are restructuring the team and need talent for the future. I think Spurs have signed a bit of dud here, who will have the odd game here or there but overall will struggle to adapt.
