    Jerzy Dudek

Watched thon match of ours v Chelsea in the 01/02 on LFCTV last night, Dudek pulled of a top class save from Stanic, point blank save.
The commentator then said something along the lines of 'that's why he's rated one of Europe's top keepers'
I was only about 13/14 but i do remember his first season at Liverpool, he was ****ing quality at a time.
It's just them blunders against the scum ****ed him up but before that he was a brilliant keeper. Especially in his first season.

I was in the main stand for Dudek's first game the 1-3 against Villa and thinking I wasn't sure he'd be that good, however he was excellent all that first season with us.

I had to do these recently, got me thinking about him. A very, very good goalkeeper, just prone to a mistake like you say Marky.

He had a terrible world cup and was never the same keeper for us thereafter.

Remember Houllier buying both Dudek and Kirkland on the same day for about £6M each? Never got that me. Why didn't he buy one of the world's best and an old timer as understudy instead?

I remember reading somewhere that he wanted to sign Kirkland, but deal was looking unlikely so he made a move for Dudek and then Kirkland became available and it was too late to pull out of the Dudek deal. Not sure if it's true though
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think there is something in that, as Sander would have made do as a No2 for a few months; I think they progressed both deals to the point of no return by mistake and had to take both.

It was just a classic Liverpool transfer blunder.

He had a terrible game that day, not the best first impression.

For a long time there we would buy great keepers and turn them into ordinary ones. When they left they turned good again( Reina's bucked the trend, great keeeper getting better). Calamity James is now rated one of the best keepers in England, same with Friedel. A few others have done similar. When it happens that often you start to think that it might not be the player but there may be an element in the club thats screwing them up.
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

Was the bad game that he had in the World Cup that ****ed him up. Was it 6 goals or something he got hit past him? Never the same after that
