    Lucas in Brazil squad

Liverpool midfielder Lucas has been named in the Brazil squad for an Olympics warm-up match later this month.

Brazil are yet to announce opponents or a venue for the game on June 22, but coach Dunga was quick to reveal a squad following his side's shock defeat to Venezuela on Friday night.

Lucas' recognition at international level comes at the end of an impressive debut season at Anfield, during which he made 32 appearances and scored one goal.

"How many Brazilian players could say they have succeeded in England with a famous club? Not very many," said the Reds' midfielder. "We have Fabio Aurelio here and I hope he is successful but he had played in Spain for years before England.

"I would like people to remember me as the first young Brazilian to win everything with Liverpool. I became the first Brazilian to score a goal for Liverpool and that was a proud moment for me.

"I could have gone to Spain or Italy and it would have been more like I am used to. But I want to make the most of my career and I want to challenge myself.

"I have friends from the international team at Inter, Cesar and Maicon are great players and I would have enjoyed playing with them.

"But I would much rather play for Liverpool than Inter. That was my decision then and it would be the same if I had to make it again.

"I love the English game, but I will have to work hard and take my chances in the team if I am going to play and enjoy a long career at Anfield."

I like Lucas - I think he has something special about him. Needs to develop a lot but I think the seeds are there. Seems to have the right attitude as well. Annoying that he will piss off to the Olympics for the beginning of the season though.

Agreed. Some nice quotes there, although he seems to think Aurelio has yet to prove to be a success for us.

seems to have a good temperment for a young lad

Unbelievable, how could anyone think such a thing?

I'm adding to the list of reasons I like him - unexpected honesty in interviews.

I like Lucas. He's a manager's player. You get the feeling he doesn't impose himself enough on the game but he still ends up with an excellent assist ratio, so he's got the intelligence and the vision to do the business.

Needs to be more daring though. Hasn't threatened the goal enough and has been a bit inconsistent with his passing sometimes. I'm impressed though.

I really think his progress is one of the reasons Rafa is willing to let Alonso go.

hopefully your right. i think he will get a lot more time next year on the pitch, he really needs to bulk up though

Totally agree there, but i have my worries that he's able to, some players no matter how hard they work just can't seem to add that extra bulk.

However if he could add that extra strength i believe it would add to his game significantly, he does get nudged off the ball all to easily imo, not a good trait for the prem.

You can get away with it in other leagues, but strength on the ball has always been a good asset to have in our league, especially when it's combined with skill.

Before the Inter Milan game i was a bit shocked when i heard the announcer name Lucas in the team alongside Mascherano. Then i remembered that Alonso had a head injury but i was still worried that he was out of his depth

The game started and Lucas was ****ing amazing. The talent is clearly their so im not worried now. If he can play like that on the biggest stage possible against the biggest of teams in his first season then im confident that he has a very bright future with us

                          I think he's a distinctly average footballer.
