Hopefully Xabi`s performance tonight will push up our asking price.

Pissed off. SHalf a squad that deserves selling and we get rid of him. Hope you stub your big toe rafa.

A good game against an average team who allowed him time and space on the ball.

Meant absolutely nothing in terms of his ability to still do the same in the prem'.

Anyone else notice how the Offal site heaped praise on him for his performance last night.....either they consider him to be a pivotal player for us or they're trying to bump up his price...or they don't understand irony?

Alonso was quite good in his past few games. He's done alot of passes that actually hit their mark. I dont get the amount of crap he gets here. Injured for most of last season, he just needs time. Looks like he's had that time. And we're selling him for a pathetic 14mill if correct. Weak.

I think Barry is a good player, but Xabi has the ability to be a great player.

The match report from last night was spot on:
There were some positives for Spain, though. Xabi Alonso, who appears certain to leave Liverpool for Juventus this summer, was phenomenal, almost pulling out his favourite party trick with a lob from his own half as well as striking the inside of the post with a glorious drive.

I'm going to miss him, and I am convinced his best years are still ahead of him.

That is the key point for me.

I dont see any hope of xabi staying now and I am absolutely gutted about it especially since we are replacing him with a **** player for a massive fee.I see no logic at all, if we were bringing in a top player to replace him I could understand but Barry?
Barry is older then xabi, an inferior player to xabi and is just a standard top ten prem player.
MON must be ****ing pissing himself, hes taking us to the cleaners with the fee and if anything we are strengthing our rivals and weaking us.

The thing is guys I get the feeling Xabi doesn't want to stay. There's not a lot you can do when a player is unhappy except cash in on him coz your never going to get the best out of him.

There is no doubt he's a top player who is capable of being world class and he will truly be missed. We will definately miss his ability to hold up the ball and dictate the tempo however over the last couple of seasons he has been less effective at being creative as he has less time on the ball and is playing a deeper role than his first season. Tbh I think Xabi will be a hit in another league where the pace is slower, look at last night for instance.

I can't remember where I read it but there was talk (I think from Ballague) that Alonso didn't want to go and was happy with us until Rafa decided he wanted to sell him. I'm not sure that he can stay now with the player-manager relationship broken down whether that is one sided (from Rafa who clearly doesn't trust him as he once did) or not.
