My point was that Barry wouldnt be taking our pens as Stevie does, or even if he does instead of Stevie, the benefit/loss to the team would net off anyway.

As for his freekick delivery, well you certainly cannot argue that we need to improve that, but there are plenty of players who play in all sorts of positions in which we are actually short who could do so equally or more so. Villa is just one example.
    3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Diego is looking to go to Juve or Inter.

If Juve get him, then looks like Xabi will be staying.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

With reports suggesting that Juventus are scaling down their interest in Xabi Alonso, the Spanish star has suggested that he would be more than happy to stay at Anfield next season.

Alonso has been linked with a move to Italy for weeks now but discussions between the clubs have so far failed to bear fruit, while the transfer of his possible replacement, Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry, has also become a somewhat tiresome saga.

Juve recently stated that Alonso was only one of a number of targets for the summer and it has been suggested that Claudio Ranieri’s interest in the Reds fans’ favourite is waning considerably.

Where that would leave Liverpool’s pursuit of Barry is open to debate, but it seems Alonso would have no qualms in remaining on Merseyside if necessary.

"I am very happy with Liverpool, the city, the people and they treat me very well,” said the midfielder. “There are so many rumours and I prefer not to think about my future.

"I have always said that Anfield has been and will be one of the best stadiums in the world.

"The atmosphere is unique and the fans support you like no other stadium in the world. It is incredible."

Alonso impressed when called upon by Spain in their Euro 2008 triumph but the former Real Sociedad star now has his sights set on league glory at Liverpool, assuming he remains at Anfield of course.

"It's great to be a European champion with my club and with my country, but now I would like a league medal,” he added. “It's the one thing missing. I would love to win The Premier League

"The Premier League is so attractive and there are so many good teams. It is difficult to win it and that has been shown by Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal becoming champions."

Johnny, what would you say was a decent price, given our unknown transfer funds and our need to fill other positions?

I just think the money being quoted for Barry is outrageous and can't see what line up Rafa is going for next season.

                ----------Masch-----Barry------------

                Kuyt!!----------Stevie----------Babel

                ------------Torres------------

That is no improvement at all on last season IMO.

We need at least one, out and out world class winger.

Throw Keane into the mix and we are talking square pegs round holes.

Be prepared for another merry go round of bench warmers.

My biggest problem with Kuyt/Pennant and Babel is that when we are having a good game that they don`t float in from the wings ala Ronaldo.Keane could and will do this.Keane is a natural predator and will follow the play in to the box and pick off goalkeeper parries, something we`ve missed for a while and something Ronaldo lives off.Keane could be our Ronaldo,Babel/Kuyt should be.
Barry will not play instead of SG or Masch so will presumably play a narrow left cutting in to support Torres,Keane/Babel and Kuyt.

All this is obviously dependent on whether we sign Keane and Barry.

                  I see great times ahead.

We have two months to find a Spanish buyer if we really want Barry.
