the thing is it might be working well for villa but it hasnt really worked for torres. Torres plays best in counter attacking teams where he has space to attack but spain play slow possession football so he cant break quickly on teams. He has pace, power and strength and this has suited us with stevie playing behind him and giving him quick first time balls.

Villa's style of play suits teams that dominate possession because he likes crosses and balls played into the box, that's probably the reason why he's done well and torres hasnt. Villa is all about guile and slight movements that give him a yard to take his shot.

Torres might run between 20 and 30 yards to score his goals whereas villa is more about 5 - 10 yards (in the box). If anyone can make it work its Rafa - im sure if we sign him we will play a blend of both and if both villa and torres score 20 each then we'll be happy.

Assuming we sign him of course

The reason Torres didn't get much change from the likes of the Scum this year was because its easy for 2 defenders of the class of Ferdinand and Vidic to mark one forward. With Villa in there too both of them are busy with one each which leaves room for Babel and Gerrard to cause havoc.

He's top class, sign him up and then let Rafa worry about how to get the best out of the 2 of them.He wouldn't sign him if he didn't see him fitting in to his vision of how we play.

      In Rafa we trust.

        Si!

Has my dream come true - I'm sure I heard something on SSN about him saying that his preferred move would be us?

          Probably this mate:

Spanish star David Villa has hinted he would like to move to Liverpool, if he heads to England this summer.

The Valencia striker has lit up Euro 2008 with four goals in their opening two group games.

A host of clubs are tracking Villa with Liverpool and Chelsea reported to be heading the queue for the diminutive front-man.

Villa, who has linked up so well with current Reds star Fernando Torres for Spain, admits he would be tempted by the prospect of playing with him on a weekly basis.

"Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with a lot of attraction," he told the News of the World.

Villa also admitted that Liverpool's Spanish coach Rafa Benitez could play a big role in attracting him as he tried to sign him earlier in his career.

"Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I also have a lot of friends there," he said.

"When Rafa was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia but I couldn't arrive until the year after he left there."

I reckon if either of them was injured or needed a rest the other could be the 1 in a 4-2-3-1, otherwise they could play as a pair in a 4-4-2, or in pretty much any of the forward roles in a 4-2-3-1.
            Never knowingly optimistic

I am most worried that Villa would kill Torres during a goal celebration. Seriously, the way those two grab and tackle one another makes me nervous and already cost Villa a fractured finger...

But seriously, while i do think this combination works for Spain, I think it would be even better at Liverpool because we have some superior pieces to the puzzle. That said, Rafa would need to commit to attacking much more than he does; No team in England would give our players as much time on the ball as Spain have had against Russia and Sweden. Both of those teams were technically overwhelmed by Spain. I like David Silva ok, but clearly that Silva/Villa partnership was not enough for Valencia, who had a very bad year. I think Mascherano/ Gerrard/ Babel/ Kuyt with Torres and Villa up top would be world beaters. F*ck rotations, hope for the best in terms of injuries and rest, have Crouch and Alonso as "super subs" (the one phrase at The Euros that is driving me crazy), throw them in on some matches and give a rest here and there, but put your foot on the gas and go. We need to keep these players and give them time and a clear role on the pitch and in the squad. Not everyone is in the starting eleven, but to have the luxury of an Alonso and Crouch to come on at any time is what makes for a championship side.

That said, we need a couple of backs who can help the attack and get some crosses in by partnering with Babel and Kuyt. The chemistry on the wings is our most important problem; We look bereft of ideas on both sides of the pitch, I'm afraid.
