    Hicks wont sell Torres.

We'll never deal on Fernando Torres - Tom Hicks
Jun 17 2008 EXCLUSIVE by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

THE final nail in Chelsea's bid to prise Fernando Torres from Anfield has been hammered by co-owner Tom Hicks.

The American has declared that not even an offer in excess of £50m – the current world record – would see the club’s player of the year leave.

“There is no price at which we would consider selling Fernando Torres,” said Texas-based Hicks. “The Chelsea rumours in the media are total rubbish.”

Despite manager Rafael Benitez, chief executive Rick Parry and finally the player himself dismissing a stream of reports linking Liverpool’s top scorer with a move south, speculation has continued.

One Sunday report claimed Chelsea were planning a £40m bid to test Liverpool’s resolve, and another suggested that “one half” of Liverpool’s American ownership team was prepared to do business.

But Hicks has made it clear that despite the obvious divisions which exist at the club, all parties are united on the future of their prize asset.

While Torres’ Anfield future is secure, one player who is heading for the Anfield exit door is John Arne Riise.

But the Norwegian defender is praying that he is not priced out of a move to Serie A side Roma with the Reds believed to be holding out for £5m.

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti has gone on record saying Riise would give his side a new dimension, and the defender said: “That was nice what was said by the coach (Spalletti), but this is only something I have heard from media reports,” said Riise.

“I have only one year of my contract left, so the price is lower than a year ago – £5m seems a little high for me.

“I need to play and need to be in a team where I can become better, because I know I can become better.

“When you change club, you get a kick-start and a set of new challenges.”

He states the bloody obvious. Hicks will say anything to placate the fans. The man has no integrity so his words are pretty worthless.

If he says nothing then people say why isn't he denying it...there must be truth in it. When he denies it we still moan.

          He can't win :-)

In this case they are not. The media are being fed this from Chelsea in a piss poor attempt to unsettle Torres (only reason for it IMO). It should be CFC that came out and denied these rumours but the fact they havent proves they are the source.

They are a ****ing joke and the sooner Roman realises he can't turn **** into a diamond and ****s off the better. CFC are destined to buy all the cash hungry players who do not give a ****, while we buy trophy hungry players that want to be part of a real football club.

              Chelsea can just **** off:bird:

He can't win on this one can he?

He keeps his trap shut and no doubt you'd be moaning about the fact that Hicks has not issued a statement saying that Fernando is not for sale.

He makes a statement saying that Fernando is not for sale and you still have a moan.

Ay, the same thing happened when he called for Parrys head... He somehow got slated for that as well, eventhough every fan has been saying the same for a long time.

I'll agree he doesnt deserve any stick for coming out on this, but it was clear he had other motives to sack Parry than to please Liverpool fans or for Parry not doing a good enough job.

In that case Chelsea serve a purpose, albeit a contrived one. They sort out the mercenaries before they end up at Liverpool's door. God only knows we don't have the money for mercenaries right now. We've been saved bundles by 'missing out' on expensive passion-less players like SWP, Duff and Malouda (however good they may have been in the past).
