    Over Achievers

So who are going to be the over achievers for 2008-2009. Who is really going to kick on and do more than we think they can?

My 2 votes are with Leto and Lucas!

Does Agger count? Injured most / all of last season but may become one of the best defenders in the country and will chip in with some good goals and assists (perfect for a fantasy league player). I'd go for Lucas as well.
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

If he's not sold I reckon Crouch will be the over achiever.

If Crouch does leave then I reckon it will be Yossi.

Dossena - as he will have no expectations set as none of us know anything about him.

id like the whole team to overachieve, cos lets face it, we wont win the title.......

anything upwards of 4th place will be a good season.

hope Babel can start being more consistant though , immense coming off the bench, but yet to do it when he starts.

is it just me or does Babel have that look off Henry about him.. might never be as great but, i can see it in him to achieve great things.

As for over achievers i would like alot of players to do this.. i see lucas playing more first team games, aswell as Degen and Dossena..

With the risk of getting ahead of myself, no, you are not alone in thinking that Babel could be our next Henry. He has already scored some pretty impressive goals and his play in general always gives me hope that something is going to happen.

He has already earned a first team place IMO and he's still so young that it's frightening how much he may improve.

Wasn't it van Basten who originally made the comparison. I'm not sure I have seen anything to justify such lofty praise. He has been decent and has a great turn of pace but his intelligence, awareness and finishing are far from what Henry had.

Babel's build up play needs improvement. He does have the qualities to become like Barnes however with the right coaching, experience and fitness levels, I can see him becoming a beast and an integral part of this Liverpool side for years to come.

Only hindsight will let us know, but I'm sure Van Basten has seen the "spark" in Babel that we have all witnessed. He (Van Basten) has been around some truly great footballers in his time and must surely know what traits are required to become a top talent.

Almost everyone on here agrees he's raw with massive potential. Henry only came good in what, his mid twenties? It took until Cronaldo's 3rd season to start performing for the mancs.

For a bit part first season, I think Babel deserves such lofty praise and apart from as you say, intelligence and awareness, only time playing in the Prem will improve that.
