so we made over £20,000,000 just from CL

Everton made £400,000 from the Uefa Cup

We Sell more more season tickets at a higher price

Our stadium is larger and we generally play more home games due to success in europe

We make more money from our main sponsor

We make much, much more than the bitters IMO, despite all this I have a feeling that we wont be outspending them by much this summer, if at all

what is going on please ?
wages my friend, we pay the best and probably double what the blue****e pay. I suspect there are few Liverpool first teamers on less than 50k a week and few if any blue****e on more than 50k a week.

When was the last time anyone was stabbed to death at an English club game?
who said this was about violence? i think you miss the point my friend.

its more about distribution of wealth. not just across europe, but also if the same 4 clubs in the premier league qualify for the champions league year in, year out then its not good for the premier league.

ultimately the premier league will suffer from having four clubs operating on a different level to the competition.

i think one of the directors at ipswich once told bobby robson "love the game more than the prize. without the game there is no prize."

i think that quote is relevant in this case. if the big 4 we currently have finished in the top 4 places of the premier league for the next 5 years how boring would that be?

English fans aren't perfect, yes there is still hooliganism which should be stamped out but tell me when did we last see similiar scenes in the UK that are regularly seen in Italy??

Sorry mate I was joining in the other part of the discussion in this thread about crowd violence with Jack D Rips, Woobus and FaTony.
Money has always been part and parcel of football, it's just that the amounts are greater these days, we used to regularly pay out for top players back in the 80's when we were successful

England's top clubs could be banned from the Champions League unless they clear their debts as Uefa president Michel Platini wants sides who are in the red to be prevented from entering Europe's top competition. (Ooh ahhh Daily Star)

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

The thing is he really needs to back up these obviously populist (with most European countries) statements with an actual plan of action. I think there is something that could be for the good of football in them but as it is it just appears to be vindictive idiocy.

Clearly everyone would like to see more competitive leagues and most people who don't support the English top 4 would want more different teams represented at the later end of the CL. The problem is though that as stated in cartoon bull**** language the proposals would completely stagnate all teams - no debt = no new stadia and no new facilities for youth development. If you banned the top teams now it would result in a lot of court cases and loss of earnings as a lot of the CL money comes because English viewers watch the CL to watch English teams compete.

If he could give a sensible framework and timescale to these proposals I might well support him. He would have to stop making digs at England and English teams at every opportunity though.

Good post. There is something in it and something has to be done to get the game on a more even playing field so to speak. a straight no-debt policy as you say tho is ridiculous. im sure there will be a framework however as they put together for the 6+5 rule.

Was reading my ****ty german paper today and it said the following.
                    EM spruch:
"Ich glaube, es wäre sicherlich gut für die Engländer..."
Uefa-boss Michel Platini in 'kicker' auf die Frage, ob die nächste EM mit mehr als 16 Teams gespielt wird.
So he just says it would be good news for England if they extend the number of teams in the next European Championships

He proper hates England. I'm not even bovved about our national team but this guy is an absolute prick. needs sacking

this is more nonsense from platini who is currying favour for his inevitable run for the FIFA top job. If he was serious about these things he would start carrying on about the corruption in Italian football and the cosy deals Real Madrid have got over the years, etc, etc. The EPL is the most popular league in the world for several reasons and players from other countries want to come and play in it. Obviously the rewards are great but so is the competition. He should get over it and move on to important stuff rather than his obsession with the EPL.
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
