Fracis Durán and Dani Pacheco earn hometown recognition

Nice to see that Pacheco has been promoted to train with the first team. This may or may not just be for the first few weeks of pre-season until the International players come back but even so it's still a nice piece of recognition for the young lad.

The president of the local Council, Salvador Pendón, welcomed two young malagueño footballers, Francis Durán and Dani Pacheco, natives of Almárgen and Pizarra respectively, to recognize their successful careers in sport. The youngsters are currently part of Liverpool’s reserve team after their stay on different youth categories at Malaga CF.

The event was attended by the president, the mayor of Pizarra, Francisco Jose Vargas, the mayor’s lieutenant of Almárgen Francisca Soria Verdugo, the president of the Malagueña Football Federation Miguel Sanchez, and the families of the footballers. Salvador Pendón presented them with a jábega (a model ship) as a gift from the provincial institution.

According to Salvador Pendón, “it’s is a special privilege to welcome these two young malagueños who despite their youth serve already as a reference for other young people in this province and to see that their success has surpassed our borders by being part of one of the best football clubs in Europe and the World, and also being part of the Spanish national team on different youth levels, who’ve also given us so much satisfaction”. “Next week they will resume training with their team and I hope that they can continue their progression. I am certain that these young men will soon emulate the success that these days the national Spanish team is having in the Euro Cup”.

On their part, the footballers showed their appreciation for the acknowledgment and manifested their happiness for the recent promotion of Malaga to the first division, club where they began their career.

Francis Durán commented: “It is a very positive experience that I’m living in England despite two serious injuries that I’ve suffered, now I expect to fully recover and I'm already looking ahead.”

Francis Durán, 20, a native of Almárgen, began his football career at Mortadelo CF, team of the Malagueña Capital, then signed for Malaga CF, where he played at the youth level and made his debut for the first team, while also being part of the U-19 Spanish national team. After his stay at Malaga, Liverpool contracted his services where he’s been for two seasons.

On his behalf, Dani Pacheco declared that: “this season has been a bit hectic since besides my duties at Liverpool I’ve been to numerous meetings with the U-17 Spanish national team but I am very happy after receiving a call from Rafa Benitez to begin the pre-season with the first team.”

The football career of Dani Pacheco, born in Pizarra 16 years ago, has always been characterized by its meteoric ascent; he played for Malaga CF at the infant tourney at Brunete. But he soon abandoned the blanquiazul team to sign for Barcelona’s youth team where he played with the U-18, despite being only 15. After his stay at La Masia, he signed for Liverpool where he plays in the reserve league, competition where the Premier League team’s B teams participate. He’s also been a part of the Spanish U-17 setup for the European Championship in Turkey where the team was crowned champions after beating France. Dani Pacheco was not able to play because of an injury he suffered right before the start of the tournament. Despite this blow, Rafa Benitez, manager of Liverpool FC has called up the malagueño striker to be part of his pre-season squad.

    Excellent.

Can't believe Duran is 20. I've never seen him play sadly, given his seemingly persistent and serious injury problems, but I remember reading glowing reviews. Apparently he's a very neat technical/touch player, similar to most of the Spanish midfield at the moment. Compared to Iniesta, he was.

Be nice to see him make some sort of impression on the 1st team squad in the coming season.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
