If Rafa can't get hold of the world class players we want this year, would you prefer him to hold onto the money for next year if it meant that 4th-5th was the best we could do? Or would you prefer he upgraded the squad but we could only get to 3rd at most?

Welcome aboard. BTW Posting sensible stuff will not endear you to the nativesOriginally posted by Tuna Taco View PostMight as well break my posting duck in here...
I don't know how any fans could accept anything less than 100% immediate commitment. If Rafa "waited" for next season, then he may well not be here next season. Bit of a no-brainer in my opinion. Spend now, and earn extra money to spend next season.

Credit crunch will be worldwide and I suspect the level of transfer fees MUST take this into account -remember the less one pays the less interest long term
It may be irrelevant if one is also selling at an inflated price but dangerous if we are only buying
This is largely why the Americans were quick to buy Torres but then endorse Rafa's policy of buying good young talent for 3/4 years time -either they make it or we make money on them [but hopefully not letting money slip through our hands like with Pongolle]

Why would we only get third at the most if he upgraded the squad now.
If that's your view then I wouldn't be giving him any money at all.
If Rafa spent a wedge now and only finished third then serious questions would be asked.
Mancs are losing Ronaldo and Chelsea are losing Drogba and Lampard plus others maybe.
Big players going..
I know by adding Villa and Silva, Barry, etc wouldn't guarantee a title but I would like to think we would be fighting for first to the end of the season.

For me, and if it was guaranteed, then save the money and buy big next season.Originally posted by Tuna Taco View PostMight as well break my posting duck in here...

The names being bandied around at the moment are absolutely no great shakes, and I'd rather see some quality come in than spend the money just because it's there.
In reality, have the teams below us improved sufficiently to seriously compete for 4th place? I don't think so. Another season of stability could bring dividends in itself, plus leave a pot for unseen eventualities in January if needed.

Nah, just dont see it. Buy now and buy later too. If we sit still it sends out a negative impression to the players and the fans, ie that we're skint (even though we may well be) we need Rafa to spend what he's allowed to now.Originally posted by Sadgeek View PostFor me, and if it was guaranteed, then save the money and buy big next season.
