I am sure he really does believe we will win it, he has a winning mentality and believe in the other players round him. He is probably thinking of how great we were at the start and end of last season.
I cant see how it will add pressure on Rafa and I am sure Rafa is delighted to hear him being so positive. I am shocked and disgusted how comments like this have been used as a stick to beat him with. Fingers crossed all the team has the same believe, if only it would rub of on some fans.
    Get a grip

Stop being so melodramatic. Stick to beat him with?

Have you not been saying that his positive comments are wrong and it would add pressure on Rafa and give us fans unrealistic expectations?
If you havent been having a go at Torres for making these comments then I will take that back. It looks to me that you have used his comments to have a go at him, if I have misunderstood then sorry.

Yes, it gets us closer however its the niggling points against teams we simply should have beaten. At home, we should be rampaging against teams and make Anfield a very volatile and difficult stadium to go to. We need to steamroll teams to an extent that our next opponents have already lost the game in their heads. I know thats easier said than done but our early fixtures don't seem to be the most difficult- they can be difficult if we get complacent and achieve 'good enough'.
Excellent point that I was just going to make the same point, with Belief you are 50% of the way there.

It'll be interesting to see, once the transfer window has closed, what our opponents line-ups look like.

I also want to say that just because Manure get enough money in to bring world class replacements for ronaldo, whats to say they will settle immediately? Players, Torres aside, usually take a year or two to settle in, that would give us a distinct advantage next year.

there is no reason why we cant win the premiership, we need a great start, big players need to stay injury free and we have to punish the small teams and turn up against the scum......all is acheivable and there are question marks over all our rivals. Ronaldo is irreplacable dont care what anyone says, lampturd may leave plus a new manager is in aat chelsea and arsenal havent got a big enough squad to cope. Course we can win it

Just to clarify: There's a difference between belief and delusion.

We CAN win the PL, we all start on the same number of points and we all have 38 games.

However, there is a difference between that and saying we WILL win the league

Its a winning mentality. Torres is putting pressure on himself by saying he will win the title with Liverpool. Its like Mayweather saying before every fight he will beat his opponent. He trained hard, worked on his tactics and got the result. That sort of confidence needs to be bred into our team. At times, it feels we don't have the belief and have that inferior complex and are willing to accept 'good enough' which shouldn't be the case.

Confidence will almost always lead to a performance that is at least 50% better than normal. Not true for all but that is my experience anyway. Let's hope Torres mindset rubs off on the rest of the team.

I have no doubt we can win the league this year with us improving and United, Chelsea and Arsenal losing some of there best players. We really missed attacking full backs last year and that is hopefully sorted. Scored the most goals last season just imagine how many we can score this year if we have more attacking players.
We're talking the league here yes?

In what respect did we score the most goals?

File Keane and Barry slightly above:

                    Crouch>Benayoun>Pennant

As a Liverpool fan of some 30 years I am sick to death of hearing this pre-season posturing. I would rather we just did it.
                      Really?

When asked about the coming season I expect all our players to believe we can win the title.Whats the sense otherwise.

Yes - I'd rather they just buttoned it and got on with it though. It's just embarassing hearing all of this pre-season talk when ultimately we give up by Xmas. Any team can SAY they are aiming to win the premiership - I just want to see some determination when we're losing to Bolton away - like they really believe what they said and have the intention of backing it up.

It simply hasn't been there the last few seasons - but there has been plenty of talk - just like this pre-season.

They could of course just say "We have no chance,we`re hoping for fourth"

I suspect a few on here would have a problem with that.

Id rather they have belief in themselves and start the season positively.
