    Owen back to Liverpool ?

Before this thread even begins - let me make this clear that this is NOT a Michael Owen bashing thread; if you haven't gotten over it by now then please vent your spleen elsewhere.

Robbie Fowler. We all love him - and he'll always affectionately be known as God. However, I believe that this is probably the last season that we are gonna see him. I know he'd love to stay - even in a minor capacity, but I simply can't see Rafa giving him another one year contract after this one.
With this in mind - we're gonna be in the market for another striker in the summer...........

Now then, Owen signed a four (?) year contract with the Barcodes, and he will have 2 years left at the end of this coming season. This means that his advisors will be looking to renegotiate his contract which is (supposedly)standard practice - unless you're Liverpool FC of course . Anyway - this means that the Barcodes have a big decision to make :

Do they renogotiate Owen's contract and give him an extension bearing in mind his injury problems since he's been there?

Or do they refuse to sit down and talk of contract extensions, weary of committing even more money on a player with a very dodgy medical history? Bear in mind though - if they go down this route - L'il Mikey will be very near the last year of his contract 12 months later.(And we all know what happened last time that happened......)

Option one would be the best way to protect their asset's price - by getting him to sign up again. But I think any team would be very weary of taking this route with Mike again.
The second option would seem to make more sense - but they risk losing him for a very small fee - or even for nothing - if he runs his contract down.....

So potentially any time from the end of this season we could step in and offer him some sort of contract that would bring Michael 'home'. That is of course, presuming we're still interested and also that we are actively in the market for another striker to replace Bernard. Oh, and that also assume's he'd want to come back as well! (Alot of assumptions there I know!)

One thing I would say is pretty certain: Owen won't finish his career at Newcastle - unless it's ended by injury(fingers crossed this doesn't happen). So where will he go from there? The choice would be us, Utd, or Everton I suppose. I can't see him going darn sarf wiv all dem cockney geezers so that rules out the Chavs and Arsenal. I'd say we'd be top of the list - but one thing I'd say - it'd take a Philadelphia lawyer to sort out the contract !!

So then, the question is - on a purely footballing basis - would you be glad to see Mike back at Anfield? Forgetting all of the shenanigans in the past because we've been over it dozen's of times - I've got to say that I would be just a little chuffed to see him back. A strike-force of Dirk, Bellamy, Crouch and Owen looks pretty damned good to me - and has two distinct partnerships that I think would work well.

But what do you lot think? Is there any merit in this or shall we simply draw a line under Owen's name and move onward and upward without him?

      I'm really confused now...

AnfieldForever on this site was called Red_Al on Koptalk but is nothing to do with AnfieldForever from Koptalk...

Red_Al is nothing to do with ex-Koptalker Red_Al_77...

And now I found out that Howard_lfc - who I thought was the same name on Koptalk - is actually AnfieldForever from Koptalk...

Can't see Owen coming back to be a bit part player. Fowler wears his heart on his sleeve and ye can see he is content to be back at the club he loves no matter what role he plays.......somehow I can't imagine Owen being the same. He want's 1st team football and a bumper financial package wherever he goes!!
              Dare we believe

I'd be careful if I was you. Whilst you're concentrating on the keyboard - you've taken your mind off the fact that you've pissed and **** yourself!!!
Senility and incontinence is a fearsome combination!

I can't see Rafa wanting him. He's had opportunities to sign him and hasn't taken them. Not forgetting Rafa sold him in the first place. As long as Rafa is manager, I don't think he'll sign Owen.
rnm is funny, funny like funny haha.

I think he'll end up somewhere like Villa or one of the Old Firm for 3 years or so and then retire when he realises he'll not get back in the England team and the longer he plays the more problems he stores up for himself in the future.
If he can't get in the England squad he might as well pack up before he cripples himself.

In all seriousness Howard, although your initial post was well thought out, it contains the fundamentally flawed assumption that the people in charge of Newcastle United are capable of acting in a reasonable, rational and logical way.

I think he'll end up with whichever teams enhances his England chances. He wants 14 more goals and that's his driver in my opinion. It could well be Newcastle.....he'll get the games.
