Yossi not for sale "at any price"

by Adam Marshall, 07 July 2008

Yossi Benayoun has made it crystal clear that he has absolutely no intention of leaving Liverpool because manager Rafa Benitez "loves" him.

The Israel midfielder has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including Portsmouth, despite being more than pleased with his first campaign at Anfield.

Although he has already moved to deny reports of a transfer away from Merseyside, Benayoun has spoken in glowing terms about his relationship with Benitez and determination to remain at the club.

"It seems the media in Israel and England are in a contest to see who's more bored during the slow summer months," he told Ha'aretz.

"The media in England published a story [on] Friday that Rafael Benitez told me finally that I'm staying at Liverpool. These reports are the work of the writer's imagination because, even before the season ended, we determined that I would be staying.

"Benitez told me unequivocably [unequivocally] that he brought me here, that I had a very good season, that he's depending on me and that there's no way I'll leave Liverpool.

"I have very good chemistry with Benitez. He loves me. He bought me. I really enjoy being with him, moreover, I had an excellent season. I even surprised myself.

"Benitez didn't want to hear and isn't prepared to hear about any possibility of letting me go at any price.

"Liverpool is good for me and it was always clear I want to stay and Liverpool wants me. I got better offers financially but these tempting offers don't change my mind.

"If Liverpool wouldn't want me, I'd leave there in seconds. Even if I had a contract but I understood they didn't want me, I'd get up right away and leave.

    "But I'm not leaving Liverpool."

useful player - hope he stays
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Benayoun is a rare commodity, a true team player that is happy to wait for his chance but motivated and skillful enough to never let you down when he gets it.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

Best news I’ve heard in a while.

Hopefully we’ll hear something similar from Xabi.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

That will do Rat, that'll do.

He's a good player to have in the squad. Bailed us out big time away to Wigwam for all the good it did us afterwards...

He is a good player. Scoring 10 goals in pretty much a half season.

Against other than the top 4 he has shown that he can change and win games. That's priceless.

True. He has the mental intelligence and toughness to come good against the bottom 16

                              Agree whole heartedly
"Through me the way into the suffering city,
Through me the way to the eternal pain,
Through me the way that runs among the lost.
                              Justice urged on my high artificer;
                              My maker was divine authority,
The highest wisdom, and the primal love.
Before me nothing but eternal things were made,
                              And I endure eternally.
Abandon every hope, ye who enter here."

                              And like that… he's gone
